Where to go for 19wk Scan in Perth

    Hi

I'm 17wks today and need to book for my 19wk scan. I have been so busy with this that and the other I have not even got round to regestering with one of the hospitals. I know with my first it was all handled by the clinic and the scan was arranged after my first visit. This time I have to do it myself so was wondering if anyone knows of a good place in Perth as dont want to go to the one I went to with my doctor as that person said "that blob there is your baby" printed out one pic and said thats all the loos through there!!! I have been having a terrible time and that did not help, so I'm hoping for a little more care and that by seeing my bub this time it will help me feel more excited and able to bond like I did with the first.

    Thanks
    Sus

    Hi Sus,
You will need to get a referral from your GP to get the scan and ask him or her if they can recommend someone better this time.
I went to SKG at SJOG Murdoch with my first and took in a video tape so I could record it, which they were more than happy to do. The staff were really nice and patient and seemed as excited as I was even though they do hundreds every week.
I am now 17 weeks too and had my 1st trimester screen at 13 weeks at SKG Wembley, good thing was I didn't have to wait long with a full bladder, radiologist was nice enough but not very talkative. I am now booked in at SKG Mercy, which is where I will deliver, for my 19 week scan. I booked with Mercy because they do Saturday appointments which means DH can come.
Good luck, hope you have a better experience this time.

I have been to SKG Kalamunda (they were ok, but none of the doctors in the area reccomend going there for some reason??) SKG Kelmscott were ok and today I am going to SKG in Thornlie, they could get me in today when I rang this morning to book so I will let you know how it goes! I also know Perth Rad. Clinics are supposed to be good but you have to wait on hold to make a booking and they have longer waiting times for appointments. Good luck!
By the way, I am going to Perth Rad Clinic in Midland for my 19 week scan..

Don't know about 3D or 4D but I expect it will just be 3D as I think 4D scanners are few and far between and more like a fetal portrait sitting, ie: not used for medical purposes but just if you want to see what the baby looks like...I think??? I have seen them advertised in pg mags.
Do Mercy do pg aqua classes at the hospital?? Would you recommend it and is it expensive or claimable thru insurance?

I found them really good, it was $15 and I think depending on your health cover it can all be covered...they may give discount if you have a health care card too, dont know but its worth asking if you have one. Its alot better than the ones at beatty park pool as they did them in the outside pool when I went to try them out and you couldnt touch the bottom so I kept going to Mercy. When you get further on you will find it so nice being weightless, after the first class the next day I was so sore....did not think doing things in water would give you such a good work out. None of my friend went to aqua classes and by the end they were not as active and mobile as I was able to be and I think the classes helped. The classes after your six week check are fantastic too, you have 15 mins in pool with bub sining and swishing them round then about 30 mins to get them dryed off and a feed then you go back in the pool for a work out while the babysitter watches over the bubs...quite funny when a couple start crying as they end up bringing in other staff to rock, bounce, pat! Also dad are welcome to go in the pool with the bubs during the baby time which was lovely for my DH.
I would go this time but dont have anyone to look after Aaron during the day as DH has changed shift.

Obstetric & Gynaecological (sp?) Ultrasound Wembley is great.

They also do 4D scans. I had my 20 week scan done there and got some lovely pics and Neville (the sonographer) is abo****ely gorgeous. He explains everything thoroughly and makes you feel very comfortable.

It cost about $180 from memory and some of it is claimable from Medicare.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a girl this time but if its a boy its good as wont have to decide on wall colour as already have blue which we are about to paint Aarons room in!!!!!

Well my scan was fantastic!!! I got the video and also the cd copy of the pictures, they are wonderful....just what I needed. It really helped me feel better about this pregnancy which was what I was hoping for. We decided that we would find out the sex so were having a BOY!!! I had prepared myself thinking I would be upset if it was a boy but no I was just so thrilled to see my lovely baby boy moving round and hearing its little heart beating. The lady that did the scan(Wendy) was so lovely explained everything and showed us everything she could including his little boy part!! I would recommend this place to anyone and as its just for women its not busy at all so no long waiting times sitting with full bladders!!

So if anyone wants their details:
    Dr Anthony Murphy
    Western Ultrasound for Women
    160a Cambridge Street, West Leederville.
    Tel; 9388 1340
Cost: $170 with about $85 back from medicare.
