    Question Now I'm worried

When I went in for my 19 week ultrasound, our baby was lying on his stomach. The ultrasound tech had a good look at everything and said everything looked good, but said she couldn't get a very good view of all the angles of the heart. She said that she didn't think anything was wrong, but to be cautious she wanted to book me in for another scan at around 24 weeks. At the time, I didn't think anything much of it. But time has passed, and now I'm really starting to worry.

I just got a call from the antenatal clinic I go to, and they've booked me in for the 6th October (I'll be 22 and a half weeks, not 24). I don't know if I'm overreacting, or if it was just the way the midwife worded things, but I'm really worried now that maybe something is wrong. Is it possible they suspect something might be wrong, but they just didn't want to tell me??? Has anyone else had this happen - where they wanted you to come back in for another ultrasound because they couldn't see everything properly.

I know I probably am overreacting, but I'm so worried right now!

I have heard of people having to go back because they couldn't see everything properly. I think it is reasonably common, and in most cases there is no problem. I think it's just a precaution - they can't say they have checked everything if they haven't. That doesn't mean anything is wrong.

I hope you get a great result.

Dont be worried! i had EXACTLY the same thing happen to me. I went in for my 20 week scan and they couldnt get pics of her heart and even her spine and told me that im going to have to come back in a few weeks to het a better look coz bub will be bigger. I went back 2 weeks later and even tho she was STILL un co operative we were able to get some good pics and there is absalutley NOTHING wrong with her heart. HTH. Im 1000000% sure ur bub is just fine!!

Try not to stress. They tell you if they think there's a problem. If they just said they couldn't get a good look it means exactly that. I had two abnormal scans during my pregnancy and both times both the sonographer and the doctor told me what looked abnormal.

At my 19 weeks scan they couldnt see the brain. Ihad to go back at 21 weeks and that time they could see the brain...but not the heart....

But on a good note they could hear the HB and it was because bub was laying funny and the head dr checked it all out and said it was fine.

Dont stress about it hun...repeat scans are common.

I had the same thing happen at the 20 week scan of DS1, I had to go back a week later because they couldn't measure some parts (I can't remember what now, it was so long ago!) because he was sleeping and wouldn't change positions. Everything was absolutely fine and I'm sure your bub is too

They are supposed to check EVERYTHING, so if they, cant, they want you back!!

At Little Girls we couldn't see her heart either, and they asked me to come back. They bought in another sonographer, ( for a cleft check) and she moved, so we got good heart pics, so no repeat scan neccessary.

Its routine hon, I bet all is good.

I had to go for a 2nd scan for the heart cause DD had her arms crossed against her chest.. Everything was fine. I am sure they would have told you if there were any concerns.. as you said, enjoy getting an extra scan and seeing you little man again!!

Its just one of those things. My scanner was saying it can easily take an hour or more and depending on what he can see may have to send me away for a few hours and try again. He also warned that if he couldn't see anything then, I would have to be booked in again. Luckily she was being good and all done in 20 mins

It always makes us Mamas worry - and I understand your fears and concerns.

It is not at all unusual if a good view can't be found to have a repeat u/s. I have had this happen also.

Try to let go of all your worries and in a few weeks no doubt you will have a completed u/s of a healthy baby.

I also had this happen, i had 5 scans in total just so she could see my cheeky monkeys heart from the front. Eventually on the 5th try between 20 and 25 weeks they got a look. He is all fine and was just happy curled up in a tiny little ball
I too was worried but was told how common it is that sometimes you have to go back for another look.

    ME TOO!
I went in for my morph scan & DS was sideways (was for most of the pg including labour) so they couldn't get a good veiw of the main artery going down his back. I had to wait til my next ante natal appointment to find out, then the doc mentioned something about a foot & the artery. I was so scared!
I dunno what the foot thing was about, but everything else was fine!

that sounds normal to me , it depends on how thorough the tech is at the time too. i had an ultrasound that took an hour and a half because the tech wanted to get everything exact.
