30 weeks - stringy mucous (warning: TMI)

Hi there, I am 30 weeks today and when I went to the toilet before, I had some stringy mucous on the toilet paper after wiping (sorry if TMI). Having already had one baby born at 35 weeks, I was a bit concerned this might be part of the mucous plug so I was naughty and did a self examination of the cervix (i know, not very sensible). The cervix feels soft and not tightly closed. Is this normal for 30 weeks? This is my third baby so maybe its normal for the cervix not to be fully closed in subsequent pregnancies????

    Thanks

I think it might be a good idea to talk to your doc or midwife about what is going on.

    Hi,

Sounds like you are losing your mucous plug. I can't say if this is an indication that your will go into early labour, but I don't think it is. I think there were other threads about this and most said it was no indication. I didn't lose my mucous plug and I was over 9 days and induced....
If you are really concerned, speak to your carer (OBS, GP, Midwife)

    Hi Beccas...

I also experienced this but at 36 weeks and thought perhaps labour was imminent but I'm now 39 weeks and stills preggers so my guess is that it's just your body's way of getting ready for the inevitable! This is bub number 3 for me and this didn't happen with either of my first 2!

thanks everyone for your replies. i spoke to my ob. he wasnt too concerned. he said at 30 weeks the body gets a big surge of estrogen and this creates a lot of mucous etc. he said if it was my body going into early labour, there would be other signs ie painful contractions etc. at least i know that my body seems to be doing the right thing to prepare for baby number 3.

I am now almost 34 weeks. Yesterday, when I wiped myself, I also had a stringy mucous (very little). Perhaps, like everyone mentioned above, our bodies are getting ready for the upcoming labour. After that incidence, I haven't had any more stringy mucous episode so I just figure it's not much to be alarmed about. Should you have any more, you should contact your OB.
