    Aromatherapy

    Two questions!

    1. Has any one use aromatherapy to induce labour? What did you use and did it work?

    2. Has anyone used aromatherapy in labour? What should I use, how and results?

Sorry that's multiple questions in questions!!

I used lavender oil for about a week on and off before I went into labour, and all day on my due date (which is when I went into labour). I had to stop using it halfway through my labour, as my contractions were wry strong and it had started to make me feel ill. I loved it and think it helped a lot. The smell reminds me of being heavily pregnant and labouring now, can't wait to use it again

What and how do you use it PZ? I've been wondering about this sort of thing too, and wondering if burning candles with essential oils will do anything (other than smell pretty!)

I used an oil burner and bought the essential oil. You have to make sure you buy a good quality oil, and if I remember correctly use a carrier oil too. I don't think I did

If anything, it's nice and relaxing? That would be a good enough benefit

i used clary sage - in the bath & as a massage oil (with a carrier oil). and a clary sage lip balm. not sure if it helped for induction but i liked the smell & found it soothing.

i also sniffed the oil during early labour & used the lip balm. again it was soothing & i certainly havent been put off the smell.
