Braxton hicks and discharge - TMI alert

Today I experienced the most unusual thing ... I have been having alot of braxton hicks lately, but today, every time I had one, I felt a "squirt" of discharge with each one (if that makes any sense??) It ended up being quite a damp day, as I have about 3 or 4 bh every hour!!

I just feel silly cause this is my 4th bub and I have never experienced anything like this before! Has anyone else had this?

Also, I have been reading a few threads regarding discharge - mine has been relatively scent-less eg not sweet, not salty or briny, not earthy ....

    Hi Moutain Mummy
It is possably just an increase in CM however if it only happens when you have BH contractions then it could be a hind water leak. I suggest that tomorrow when you get up you put a pad on then go and see your midwife. They will be able to test the fluid on the pad to see if it is your waters.

    Thanks Alan,

It seems to have settled down, although the bh's haven't, I'm not getting that "squirty" feeling any more, but I did notice this morning, lying in bed, that bub's head is very low ... I could feel this bump around the top of my pubic bone (bub's head), so maybe it was all because bubs was moving down. I'm going to keep an eye on things though, just in case!

    Hi there,

Just wanted to say, you never know, it could actually be your waters breaking!. I know with my second child, i had water squirting out of me at certain intervals, rather than a gush of water!. It was funny, as i thought i must be a human water sprinkler!lol And also had period pain like cramping, but was mild to begin with. So you might mistake a braxton hick with cramping?

I rang the hospital at that time, and they said to come straight in. So i think you should do the same.

    Good luck

    Hey Mel,

Thanks for that info ... my waters have never broken by themselves, so I'd be surprised if it it was, but if it does start again, I will definitely call the hospital (it's hard cause my DP is away all week, and we have no family close by to look after the other 3, in case they do admit me to hospital) ... otherwise, I'll just check with the doctor at my appointment next week.

It's hard as well, cause we just can't afford for me to be in hospital right now, and have neither of us working

    Hi again,

I was just looking at how many weeks pregnant you are. So dont listen to me!lol.

My waters never broke out in a gush with both pregnancies. First pregnancy the midwife did it with the hook thingy, looks like a knitting/croashay (sp?)and with the second, even when i got to the hospital, i was just squirting, and i think they even sped it up a bit by breaking the waters further, again with the hook.

But i also had blood and merconium along side the clear fluid the time i got to the hospital. And dialated very quickly to 7 cm within the first hour.

I guess my point is, if you have any cramping at all, along side the fluid coming out, dont wait it out, but get it checked.

    Thanks Mel,

It's good to be armed with this info, I think, especially as I had threatened labour at 29 weeks with #3 (actually I have had hospital stays prematurely with all of mine!!), but this is feeling very different to what it felt like last time, so I will keep an eye on it. Might also see if the dr is willing to do an internal at my appt next week, just to make sure it's all still ok, or see what's going on ....
