braxton hicks or not? 33(+4) weeks

    Hi

I am 33 weeks + 4 days pregnant and have been having period pains at night for the past few days. I have had very mild period pains throughout the pregnancy (come and go, but not very often), but the period pains I have been experiencing for the past few days have been stronger, strong enough to wake me up.

Does this sound like braxton hicks? or something else? I don't feel my stomaching contracting and going hard

has anyone else experienced this? is it likely that our baby may come a little early?

I'm not too worried about this, due to having had period pains earlier in pregnancy but I just thought I would see if anyone has experienced similar

    thanks

I had period like pains but they were different to the braxton hicks that I had. My braxton were definate tightenings, sometimes not as strong as others, just uncomfortable. If you're concerned I would call your hospital or carer and just ask them the question. As when I did this at 36wks it ended up that I was actually having contractions. Have you got lower back pain? I now know that this is also a sign of early labour. I'm sure that you're fine and there is a lot to be said for intuition, so listen to it. Fingers crossed bubs stays put for at least another 4 wks.

I had these period pains too. And plenty BH. I was always told to drink plenty water and make sure i emptied my bladder properly. Wear comfy shoes and to rest. It could also be the muscles getting tierd from "carrying" babe'... But chat to Dr to make sure there's no underlying problems - it could simply be one of those things we feel when we preg, so I wouldn't over stress about it...

    Hi Jen,

I've had these pains twice in this pregnancy and both times it was true contractions; thankfully stopped though.

If you're at all worried, go have it checked out, especially if you don't think it's normal for you. But then again, it could be completely normal for you.

Good Luck; let us know how you go!

Yep I have had these period pains too; and like yourself I'm not sure if they are BH because I have never really felt the tightening sensation either.

For me the period pains get stronger as the pregnancy nears its end, to the point that they wake me up at night and I think - Oh I'm going into labour - no I'm not - yes I am - no I'm not. Frustrating!

I also get them if I'm sitting in one position for too long; sometimes at the computer or driving.
