As I'm at the stage of packing my bag I was wondering if someone could tell me how many breast pads to pack?

i never actually used any in the hospital...

I would say 1 packet of 24 should be ample

I would say a box would be ample - my milk never came in until after I left hospital so I didn't really need them in hospital.

I only used a couple. My milk came in on day 3 and I went home on day 5, so like the other girls have said you don't need until your milk comes in and often thats close to the time you get discharged if all is well.

I had a homebirth so dunno how many to take - sorry!

I wanted to use avent washables but i leaked through them within 5 minutes! I ended up using Lanisoh disposables and they were AMAZING! I still have a half box and i'll be keeping hold of them for friends or even my next bubs - they were THAT good.

I brought a box of 24 with me to the hospital, but I didnt actually use them as I went home before my milk came in. The ones I got were Swispers brand, but I didnt use them for very long as I found them extremely itchy!

Thanks for the advice! I was planning on taking an enormous box of 48 so luckily I can now take some out and save some space in my bag! I'm finding it hard to fit everything in- my husband will just have to bring me changes of clothes.

i have always found the pigeon brand (japanese brand) to be best. they are available from supermarkets and chemists. i have found them to be the most comfortable and the most absorbent. also pack some nipple cream like lanisoh or bepathen for in case you get sore nipples at the hospital.

I've packed a few too, although I am only at hosp for 24hrs so I dont think I'll need many!?

We went home before the 48hr mark, and I didn't use any... I guess it depends on you too - when your milk comes and whether you'll need them beforehand. Can't hurt to take a few and if you need more someone can get them for you

Google the weewuns - they sell all sorts of cloth stuff. I bought the swaddlebees velour ones from this site. Like Caro said, the washables aren't slim-line, so they show through your clothes if you wear something tight.
But I reckon I've saved a packet of money by using these instead of disposables, so from that point of view, I totally recommend them. Oh, and they are so soft and lovely

i was v impressed with the mommy's touch brand washable breastpads. One of the few brands that are made large enough to actually do the job, and the PUL backing made them waterproof. The microfleece lining next to your breast, was nice when i was feeling rather tender.

I baulked at the price to start with, but after i had my baby, realised how useful they were, and how much i leaked otherwise (with the disposable ones and other brand cloth ones that were too small), i went and bought more pairs, i found them indispensable. they dry fast after washing too.

got them at Nature's Cradle website, they come in pastel plain colours, i got the large size and i'm a D cup. Seemed overkill at the time, but after having baby, i really DID need that size.

i also discovered whatever the disposable ones wewe made of, irritated my skin

Pigeon ultra slim here too - they are great - I think i only use a couple in hospital so you should be fine with a few.
Amberdee - Avent make washable ones - Ive bought some but not used them - I go though quite a few disposable so not keen on washing that many!! Good luck.

caro - i agree i bought avent washables. and what a dissapointment. can wear then out without looking like a have a couple of cd's stuck to my boobs. and thet always leak through to my top... should have invested in more disposables for the cost.
i too use rite aid and love them.

i did use any in hospital ( i was only in 2 days thou) it wasnt till i got home my milk went crazy.

Hmm with all the trim modern cloth nappies out there, you'd think someone could come up with some nice thin washable breastpads!!
