    Breech baby at 37+ weeks

    hey girls

    Found out today that bub is in breech position...little bugga

    Having a formal ultrasound tomorrow to confirm, and see what my options are for an ECV. If baby is a certain way, or placenta is in a certain position, an ECV may not be possible so then will have a ceasarean.

    Has anyone had an ECV? not really sure what to do, there is risks with this procedure...as with all, and the baby does not always turn. What would you do?

    Just looking for some advice, thanks

    * Read spinningbabies.com
    * Try acupuncture/moxabustion (traditional chinese medicine practitioner does this)
    * Consider a breech vaginal birth
    * Hire a doula
    * Find a Bowen Therapist who has Bowtech experience
    * Try an osteopath who can help make sure your pelvis is not twisted and in alignment
    * Read 'breech birth woman wise' by Maggie Banks so breech birth doesn't seem like a complication or medical emergency

    When mum had me, I was breech. I was born 9 days post dates. I was breech until 8 days post dates then decided to flip head down. If I was born in 2008 I would have been born, by c/s @ 38 weeks. That's over 3 weeks earlier than I was ready for.

    Just on the ECV - I haven't had one but I client who did recently at 37 weeks who went on to have a normal birth.
    Basically what we know about the safety of ECV in a nutshell - it is considered safe if it's done by someone who has experience in it. Very vague, but it's up to you to satisfy yourself that is the case in your situation. Presumably though, I doubt that it's really done anymore by anyone who isn't experienced.
    Very funny actually my client who had it was told by her GP (she was doing share care) not to bother and just elect a caesarean...because ECV was "a third world procedure". She took great delight in going back and telling her not only did it work, but she had a quick straightforward birth in the end Imagine if she had just taken the GP's word for it.

    For me personally, if I was in that situation and I'd tried everything else I could think of, and knew there was no way I could have a VB, I would do it. It's a last resort but still far more preferable to a caesarean in my book.

    Good luck.

    hi bugalug,
    my breech bub is now 14 weeks old and yes i had 4 ECV's all of wich failed but they were not as bad as i was told they would be if anything mildly uncumfortable but for mr i wanted to try everything to avoid a c/s ,im not sure if your hospital will allow you to have a breech birth but up here there is DR Bisits at john hunter hospital that will if all looks good not sure if newcastle would be to hard for you or even if you would want to but he was great told me i give it a go as i was sure thats what i wanted and i had a 8lbs 15oz healthy baby boy after just over 4 and a half hour of labour but deffinatley try the ECV and if you want a vag birth you will probably have to fight for it .
