Brewers yeast supplements

I was just reading about brewers yeast and it is said to be used for helping with breastfeeding and keeping your supply up.

So my question is, is it safe to take in pregnancy and has anyone used it?
I know it's a big ingredient in the lactation cookies so thought it may do the same as those?

My granny would always say have a small shot of stout (beer) and that will get your milk going. I guess in a sense it's not as crazy as I thought??
