Yes, even with a first baby. My first baby never engaged and even at the 2nd last appointment I had at 38wks he was still 'free' and not engaged at all. he didn't engage until labour was established. My second never fully engaged either and the week before she was born she was still about 3/5 engaged. My third was the only one who fuly engaged before labour.

Yes it is not unusual for labour to start before the baby is engaged

I am glad about that too - Leo hasn't even started to engage, he has been really high up all the way through, but at app yesterday, midwife said he has dropped a heap and has almost started to engage - woohoo!!

My first never engaged and I went into labour a couple of days after my due date. Since then I had friends who had c/s because their babies hadn't engaged at 38 weeks - I was never sure why since my Ob had never even mentioned it being a problem.

That's reassuring to hear. My baby's heading down there but isn't engaged yet and I want him/her to come before 40 weeks.

hi all,im not in my third trimister yet but have been reading some posts. With my first baby a week before i was due she hadnt engaged at all in fact she was no where near down there.my dr was worried about me going into labour as the cord could of prolapsed cause she as so high up(thats what i was told) so they booked me in for a ceza....and thats what i had. Maybe i didnt need one then..i thought in all cases if the baby hasnt engaged it could be dangerous if you went into labour,i might check that out with my new doctor.because they are telling me that if it happens again i might need another ceza.......interesting
