    Confused..bubs position

Ok I know i have asked similar questions on here before..but im a bit confused.I had my 30 week check up today..(i had c-section with first preg cause she didnt engage at all by 39 weeks the dr was a bit concerned at the time) i really really want to try for a natural birth this time and asked the dr if there was any reason why i couldnt have one, she checked the positon of the baby today and said its not looking good at this stage cause babys head isnt down....Um I thought in like 2nd pregnancies and so forth they dont engage till labour starts im a bit worried now..but also confused because i didnt think she was suppose to engage yet anyway......hmm anyone have any comments on this for me?? that would be great..im worried now dont want to have a c-section

Tasha, with my first pg, my bub didn't engage until labour started. it was only my second bub that was engaged beforehand. It is true that subsequent babies often don't engage until labour starts, so I find it unusual that your ob would be concerned at 30wks gestation - and it is also common for bubs to still be in a breech position at this stage too. You baby still has plenty of time to get into the head down position so you should just stick to your guns if you really want your VBAC.

hi there, my baby was breech at 28 weeks, posterior at 32 weeks and now head down facing the right way at 33 weeks. my ob was not at all concerned about the position as still plenty of time and room to turn etc. he said often in subsequent pregnancies the babies dont stabilise in one position until quite late.

i would worry at all as there is still plenty of time for baby to change position.

thanks guys..yes thats what i was thinking as well i still have 10 weeks left she still has plenty of time to turn but she doesnt seem to be encouraging me to have a vbac..she is being a bit wierd...lol also she said i can choose to have a c-section at 40 weeks if i havent gone into labour by then...i find that a bit wierd also...i dunno i might have to go and see another dr i think for another opinion..

Also, another thing is that with subsequent pg's the uterus has already been stretched and you can be 'bigger' so they have more flexibility to move around in there. I would seek a second opinion, if for no other reason than to challenge your ob when you discuss it with them.

I don't see why not.... It might take a few weeks to convince baby to turn, so I'd be trying it.

Tasha, DS didn't engaged until I was overdue (and it's not even fully engaged) and I had vaginal labour. Hope everything goes well!

Tasha, unless there is something very unusual about your anatomy that we are not aware of, your OB's advice and actions sounds really strange. I think I would be looking at a second opinion, and perhaps a new OB. A c-section at 39 weeks for an unengaged bub sounds really bizarre to me. And a c-section at 40 weeks for no other reason but that you haven't started labour yet is ridiculous, I think!
Do your own research, and then make a decision. There are some excellent articles here on BB that can provide you with some information on c-sections and VBAC. All the best!
