    Cronic pain, Alan......

    Sorry to bother you Alan,

I was just wondering if you could give me some tips. I am in pretty cronic pain atm. I have just not long got out of hospital. Being pregnant is putting pressure on the tube that runs from the kidney to the bladder and it really really hurts. I was just wondering if you have any tips for relieving the pain. I have di-gesic and panadol to take, they have given me Keflex as well for infection, or more prevention of.. but nothing seems to be working. I am always up with pain, I am using heat packs as well, but to no avail really. I would prefer not to go back into hospital as I have a 5yo DD in school and DP doesn't drive. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. From anyone, not just Alan :-)

Edit: I forgot to mention the pain is down the right hand side going into my abdo area as well. feels like period pain in the abdo, and like someone is gripping my side and not letting go.

That's a nasty pain. I get it occasionally too and it is really really sharp and horrible. Could you spend time lying on your L side to reduce the discomfort? This would drag the weight of your uterus to the L and perhaps relieve some pressure on the ureter on the R.

Are you due to have this checked again any time soon, like by ultrasound or something? SOmetimes the pressure can result in backflow to the kidney and your kidney becoming larger (called hydronephrosis). They can see this on an abdominal ultrasound.

Tha does sound painful. The only suggestion I can give you is try to find a position that take the pressure off the tube. When you find that position spend some time a couple of times a day in that position. Try having your hips higher than your chest. Another idea may be to try acccupuncture.

    Hi,
I dont have abdo pain but do suffer from chronic back pain. It so unfair that u are limited in treating pain when pregnant. I try hot packs, changing position and take panadiene forte when pain gets too much. I am 35 weeks at present and will be asking ob to induce soon as I cant handle the pain. Hope that helps, how many weeks are you?

Thanks for the reply guys. Greatly appreciated.
Ollie I am now 30 weeks. Not too long to go, I just wish the pain would go.
I have tried different positions, lying on my left side, sitting differently and nothign seems to be working. When I had the u/s the sonographer said that baby was traverse with her head up near my ribs on the right side, then going diagonally across my tummy, with bum down near my pelvis. I wonder if this has anything to do with it?? I just want her out but I know its way to early yet... The pain is nearly unbareable again, but I don't wanna go back to hospital. Just need to try and rest some more but its hard with a 5yo who wants your attention all the time, and a baby's room that still needs setting up, although I am not doing the room atm until I feel a bit better...
Anyhow better try and get some sleep, DD has school in the morning. Thanks again guys.

    Give this a try

Get on the floor/bed on your elbows and knees spend 20 mins like that a couple of times a day. If possable stay on your knees but put your head on a pillow. This position can sometimes move the baby

It maybe worth trying a chiropractor, sometimes an adjustment can change the way your baby is lying relieving the pressure. Also maybe upping your vit C and b12 intake to
boost your immune system ready for the birth may help.

Hah! Lisa beat me to it. I also recommend Chiro. You would be amazed at what a well adjusted spine can do for you.
In addition to vit c and B12, other things to help boost natural immunity are echinacea and garlic. Garlic is best taken naturally in diet and the Ecch you can buy capsules but it is recommended not to take it for more than 2 week strectches at a time.
    Good Luck.

Thanks for the advice, I might have to look into it all... Will try the bed thing first as it is cheaper, lol. then look at my other options too. Thanks again.

My baby was transverse too, and although I didnt have the same problem as you, it did make things very uncomfortable and at times quite painful. I did what Alan suggested - getting on my elbows and knees for about 20 minutes while resting my head on a couple of pillows. It wasnt too comfy but it worked! I only did it once and bubs turned around.

Hope you get some relief soon
