    DAMN might have GD

    Hey everyone,

Just got the results of my 1st GTT and they came back high so now I have to go and book in for the 2 hr test.

Has anyone else had this and the 2nd one came back fine???

Am really worried about having GD as my biggest without GD was 9lb 12oz, and also I hate needles so worried I'm going to end up on insulin.

Sorry about the incoherancy but getting a bit stressed about all the other implications involved with having GD compared to not having it.

With DD1 my first one came back high but the 2hr test was fine and no dramas at all.

Normally from what my GP has said, if it come sback and you do have GD, its a matter of changing your diet, and not always medication is needed.

    All the best

Don't forget to read these then:

Its like the whole CPD thing really. Unless you are already on insulin for diabetes or have actual diabetes, I wouldn't stress. I know someone who was labelled with GD who was being forced into a caesar, she would test her friend's blood sugar levels when they would come over and her friends would have higher BSL than she would have. Ridiculous.

btw. She ended up ditching the hospital and had a beautiful homebirth.

    Hey KimB,

I've read heaps of women on here who have been positive for the GCT 1hr screening, but gone on to be fine on the GTT (2 hr)... including women with lots of risk factors such as high BMI, close relatives with Type II Diabetes, PCOS etc... some were absolutely convinced they would have it! So I hope that's reassuring for you - there seems to be a high rate of people failing the GCT but not having GD from what i"ve read. Hopefully some of them will see this post & reassure you as well . I remember reading them all when I went through the same thing.

I did end up with GD, but the dietary changes really aren't too bad (I think i'll be back at pre-PG weight much quicker - yay) and the needles for insulin really are very little tiny skinny things that you don't feel (not like needles to take blood or anything). PLUS heaps of people with GD don't even need insulin anyway.

So I'll send you good vibes that you'll come through with flying colours

    Hi KimB,

I failed the first GD test miserably then had to do the second 2hr test which came back fine. Good luck with it.

    Hi there,
I developed GD and had a very healthy 2.9kg baby. Despite the "theory" GD does not always mean a big baby. My GD was diet controlled - no insulin.
By the way, my sister had a high first GD test reading and passed the second test with flying colours. IMO, don't stress until your results come back as there's a good chance you'll be fine . Good luck.

    Thanks guys,

It helps knowing that others have had the 2nd test come back fine. I'm still going to stress about it tho until the results are in lol.

I mean this baby feels big already so would really hate to have GD and it be a whopper. I see the midwife tomorrow so will discuss my concerns with her. Not only have to worry about the Gd test but I have been feeling faint so want that sorted out too.

Am trying to eat healthier so the next test is ok.

    Thanks again ladies

I'm doing ok with just controlling it with diet too. This is my first pregnancy, so I'm bound to have it again with the next. (which really irks me - i so miss eating what i want WHEN i want!)

but my Ob wants to induce me - so i dont go over my due date. That has it's +'s and -'s .... at least I dont have to play that horrible waiting game after my EDD comes and goes!

At my last appt my Ob told me that I might even go into labour sooner yet - going by bub's position! and sizing scan shows all is on track too- no oversized baby here!

Please dont stress about failing the 2hr test - it's not the end of the world - and it doesn't always mean c/s

I failed the first one and passed the second. I was sooooo sure I'd have I had 3 of the risks - was overweight when I conceived, family history and I was over 40. I didn't have it. I was particular paranoid I'd have it as I suffered no ill effects from the testing - I felt completely normal throughout both lots of tests - but it meant absolutely nothing.
