Do I have diebetes based on scan results??

    Hi All

Im having a massive .. stress out. I had my GTT/Gestational Diebetes test today, I also had a 28wk scan (two birds, one stone). Anyhow, the testing this morning went fine - no dramas (should there be dramas? should i have felt anything?) I'll get the results on Monday. When i went for my scan, the sonographer and whether im in denial or gut instinct I felt wasn't as thorough/experienced as the separate company i've used before told me that baby is now due April 11th as opposed to the original date of MAY 1st! Thats almost a whole MONTH! She told me if i had diebetes that would explain his growth, but 3 months?! I had my 22wk scan and not once did they mention he was a big baby - she mentioned to me he was going very well and his measurements (bones, brain etc) had him around April 26th (I've had a descretion on when my last period date was, so i wasnt shocked when she told me a week earlier). Now suddenly between then and now it's 3 weeks early!! My hospital doctor told me last appointment they don't base their due date from scans - as all babies grow differently. She said to me the scan I had around wk 6/7 was the most accurate I could get (May 1st) and they were going to stick with that. I dont want to go back for the next scan, what am i going to be told?! His 1.5month's ahead?! Im terrified there's either something medically wrong with him and his growing too quickly or I must have diebetes. I havent had any symptoms but im unsure you would get symtoms? and i've certaintly never been lead to believe baby was a big one until today? Any has anyone had similar issues?

Wow, no real advice, perhaps they measured wrong?

FWIW, I've been told I have GD and the hospital is concerned bub is to SMALL... So the opposite!

It's certaintly a strange one! I mean of course if I have it, then i totally accept it and will manage it best I can - im more concerned about the babies size!

Late scans are notoriously inaccurate. Take a deep breath honey. Try and take it easy and wait for your blood test results.

    On another note,

Why would some women have a tolerance test and others the challenge test, i had to have 3 blood tests today - which i think is the tolerance test. Does this mean they suspect I have it and want it confirmed?

sometimes it just depends on teh doctor ordering the test. Hope all is well. 3 weeks isn't a massive difference - I wouldn't jump to change due dates at this point, either, since late scans are notoriously unreliable. Not unless you're very uncertain about your original dates.

    Thanks guys

I just about fell off the table when she told me suddenly it was april 11th down from may 1st! the 6week scan was TV, which is where may 1st came from.. which as far as i know the hospital doctor is sticking with. Im quite mad actually that the sonographer (who i dont believe did a thorough enough job at measuring) told me i could have diebetes because the baby is "so big".. to be honest i dont feel any bigger then any other 28wker..

I had GTT (2 hour test, 3 lots of bloods). I'm told its more reliable then the 1 hour GCT

As others have said, early scans are the most accurate for edd

Sounds like everything is going perfectly at this stage to me everyone grows bubs differently and 3weeks bigger is not a problem IMO and does not indicate you have diabetes.
Also if you had a scan at 6-7weeks that was not a transvaginal ultrasound as well as abdominal its very possible you were a week further along then that scan. Abdominal scans are know where near as accurate as TV scans at that early gestation.
With my 2nd I had a scan at 8.5weeks which put me down as 7+1 ( I was very thin with a BMI of just under 19 then) my 12week scan had me at almost 14weeks and when I went for my morphology scan at 18+5 I was measuring 22+3. My DD was born at 36+3 going on my first scan after a spontaneous labour looking very much full term and 8lbs.
