Question Does dating of bubs play a role in arrival

    Hi all,

My question is, when you go and get a scan and they tell you that bubs is actually measuring a week over what it should be re EDD, does this play a role in whether bubs comes early or not?.. or doesn't it matter at all?

    thanks

For me personally it has never made a difference. My babies while on the average side (in the 8 pound range) are always measuring that bit bigger. All of my babies have come pretty much near their due date to.

No relation at all to when they will be born. By the time you have your morphology scan at 19-20wks, genetics has taken over in the growth rate of the baby and this is why you can have the scan date different to your LMP date. I have never had a scan done where the measurements taken were consistent with one another. With my most recent pg, at the 20wk scan, the dates varied from 22wks to 20wks, depending on where the measurement was taken from. The measurement that was '22wks' was the femur and Alister was born with really long legs - and he was 4 days 'past' dates too. The most accurate scan for dating is the early scans done before 12wks, but again this is no real indicator either - some babies gestate for a shorter time and others need the full 42wks.

for me it didnt make a diff, Noah measured right on avg (55th percentile) for most parts (I think his legs were longer) and he was born at 39 weeks. My EDD was given at a dating scan at 7 weeks and never moved even though measurements chgd at each scan (i had a few - dating scan, 12 wks scan, 20 wks scan, a scan at 27 weeks and one at 34 weeks all with diff measurements..)
