Red face Does DTD really bring on labour?

So just curious....did having sex really help bring on your labour? My DH is a keen believer it will help when it is time but I need proof lol..... At this stage I'm to tired to even go up the stairs let alone have an amazing tumble between the sheets at 39/40 weeks!

It did for me with DD2. DTD 2 days in a row and she was born the next morning

It did for us when I was having #2. We had DTD and I literally started getting contractions within 15 minutes! But I think having an 'O' helped things along as well as being ready to go anyway - had been having pre-labour pains for a few nights before that.

Yep! Had a full day of relaxation, massages, foreplay and finally amazing sex on my due date. About 30 mins after DTD I lost my plug, an hour after I had light contractions and 4 hours after my water broke. I think it will only be effective if your body is already good to go itms.

Did nothing for us either. I think if your body is ready, it's ready

I feel a bit the same way about the whole idea!

I'm a big believer in many of the 'tricks' work ONLY if your body is ready anyway but if you can muster up the energy, it's worth a shot.

You could always take my sister's advice and just *ahem* take care of yourself I think orgasming has a lot to do with it and I will admit to giving it a try and it's amazing how those BH kick in immediately after O!

Perhaps if there was a chance of an O happening I would be more willing to give it a try....

Apparently there's a chemical or hormone in semen that is supposed to help bring on labour.... but you need something absurd like 10 litres or something???

I think relaxation and feelings of happiness bring on labour. Some people find sex at full term an enjoyable experience... for me it was not that way at all. lol

There are prostaglandins in semen which help to ripen the cervix and orgasming helps start contractions, but it won't start labour if your body isn't pretty well ready to go anyway. If you really cannot fathom DTD at full term then don't do it.

FWIW, I DTD the night that I went into labour with both DS2 and DD1, but it was also about 18 hours after acupuncture each time so who knows. I figured it was worth a shot.

I don't really know, as I haven't gotten to that point yet, but I just wanted to say that your post made me giggle - the bit about your DH being a keen believer sounds like such a typical male respones =P

DTD did it both times for me!! DS1 we DTD then about an hour later i noticed a slow water leak (37w 5d) and then with DS2 i purposely left DTD for 3-4 weeks just because what had happened previously and yep the next morning woke up in labour after DTD (38w).
