Does this mean a large baby is on the way?

    Hi all,

I had a scan today at 31weeks 2 days as i was told i had a two vessel cord and baby would need to be monitored closely during the last trimester....now after todays scan it is reveiled that i dont actually have a two vessel cord like i was told at my 18 week scan and well bubs is already estimated to be 4lb 11oz and based on the measurements is the size of a 34 week bub already so my question is how accurate do you think these results are? I'm starting to think if my bub is already this size give it another 9 weeks this bub is going to be massive....what do you think? Would love to hear from people who have been given an estimate of bubs size and how big bub actually was when born.

    Hi westy,

We were told from about our 24th week scan that bubs was about 4 weeks bigger than norm, and he has stayed big for dates since then. His estimated weight at 32 weeks was 2.65k so we think he will be a whooper too (CRINGE). Some have said that we have our dates wrong but we know to the hour when we concieved as it was IVF, OB thinks it is just genetics as dad is over 6'4". We're not setting anything in stone tho as scans are notoriuously innacurate!

I hope so for my fufu's sake! Don't freak out as bubs could be a perfect size, but even if he/she is bigger, it just means they are healthy

Our bubba was estimated to be 5.5 lbs or 2.4kg at our 31 week 4 day scan and I just gave birth to a 9lb 11oz/4.4kg beautiful baby boy......hope that helps.....

Thanks for the quick replies ....

Jellymaker, thats exactly what im thinking they aren't always the most accurate of things these scans are they ? I must say im doing some major chringing myself, my first born was 7lb2oz, second was 8lb2oz and seems this one might be that pound or more bigger again Your right as as long as bubs is healthy i dont care what size he/she is. Goodluck for the impending arrival of your little man, not long to go now you must be soooo excited!

Melbel, Congrats on the arrival of your bubba - he certainly is one very healthy lil man. Thanks for sharing your epxerience with me.

These scans are not very accurate at all. I have been having regular scans due to a two vessel cord and other issues. They told me that the accuracy of percentile results is plus or minus 15%. So when I was told my bub was on the 25th percentile that could mean anything between the 10th and the 40th percentile.
