freaking out about big baby

hi everyone, im so stressing out about the size of my bub! when i was 32 weeks he/she was around 5 pound acording to ultrasound..im now 37 weeks and look absolutley massive. when they measured fundal height it measured 42 weeks!!! i was hoping to have a vbac but they are worried about the size. im really dissapointed that i may have to have another c/s. ive gotten myself in such a state that im freaking out about going "under the knife" again. has anyone had a vbac with a big baby?

Oh hugs hun. Thats all i heard during my pregnancy and everyon on here were very supportive and made me feel so much better. I was told bubs was always 2-3 weeks ahead and that i'd have a BIG baby. Well if by big they meant 7lbs 10 then thy were right but to me it wasnt big at all.

Those measurements are used just as a guide. I'm sure bubs isnt as big as they say.

Fingers crossed you get your VBAC.

Try not to stress darl, i was told that #5 was going to be 10 pounds or more as i was quite big and measured 3 weeks bigger than my dates, well he came 2 weeks early and was only 8 pound, which is very normal for me.
I had severe spd and was told that because of his size i may need a c sec, i did not want one, and am so glad that i did not need one.

Sometimes they are wrong.

hun remember the U/S for weight is only an estimate!!!! they can NEVER be spot on!!!!

my last bub i was told would be WAY over 10 pound.... when he was born he was 9pound 4 ounzes (4.265kgs) my other 2 were 3.8kgs each

I had an 11 pounder Not VBAC but still a big boy.

They told me he was going to be about 9 pound. They told me Chase was going to be about 8 pound (he was 9lbs 5oz) and they told me Jaidan was small yet he came out 8lbs 4oz. They really have no clue about the size

I wouldn't be too worried. I was told that my bub was average size and he ended up a 9lb whopper! My friend on the other hand was told she was having a HUGE baby (also baby no. 1) and was so scared that she had an elective c-sec. Well bub ended up being a healthy 7lb 11. I don't think they can ever really know and I wouldn't let it put you off going for your VBAC. How big was your first baby, that can often be a good indication?

thankyou girls for reasuring me. my 1st baby was 7pound 6 and i had her at 37 weeks but i really dont feel that this ones going to budge..must b comfy in there! i really hope they are wrong as i really do want a vbac ....still so scary

My first bub was 9lb4oz, and I birthed him just fine - and heaps bigger babies have been birthed vaginally, so a big baby's definitely do-able!

My personal theory (as in, it could be true, but I haven't read it as a medical 'fact'), is that babies have growth spurts once they're born, so it would make sense that they have them before birth too! As in, one week they are growing fingernails, and the next they grow heaps longer/heavier. I used to measure weeks ahead, and then a few weeks later I'd be right on target, and then I'd be weeks ahead again. That's why I reckon babies have growth spurts. Don't quote me on that though.

Heavy babies can just be long babies too. Which means they don't have any extra width to push out, just length. Plus there's the whole squishability of babies heads anyway.

And as others have said, u/s is pretty darned unreliable for weight - I've read many stories where people have had a c/s because their bub is big, only to be presented with a 7 pounder. Whoops.
And even if your bub is big, it's do-able! Women birth big babies all the time!

There have been a few BB'ers that have had large VBAC babies - Niliac's little boy was nearly 10lb and Christy's little girl was 8lb15. Don't let this undermine the confidence you have in yourself. Bigger babies are no different to a smaller baby to push out and it really is mind over matter - if no one told you anything about the possible size of bubs, you wouldn't have a concern at all, but once someone mentions 'big baby' - there goes your confidence.

For the record, fundal height means NOTHING in relation to the size of the baby - it can depend on how much fluid you have, position of the baby and also how many babies you've had before. Also you could have 2 people get two different measurements each time. All it measures is the height of your fundus.

Keep pushing (pardon the pun ) for what you want because YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Dont think about bubs possiable size, just concentrate on what a wonderful event is soon to occur.

oh hun!! dont stress about those ultrasounds they aren't accurate, only estimates!

I was told at 39wks pg that i was measuring 44!!!! and i was going to have a 9pd or 10pd baby and the midwife tried to scare me and said "you might need c.section" which i was so offended about!!!

my DD was born 8pds1 ! nice and average......and natural vaginal birth.

I was told DS was going to be HUUUUGE..... he was going to be 9 pounds. A big one! They said.

He was 7lb 5oz - a little tacker. They really don't know and are just guessing. You'll do it, I have confidence in you!
