    Q about cervical length ??

Hoping someone can set me straight. I've had threaten preterm labour for the past six weeks with three trips to the hospital for medication to stop labour.

I had an u/s last week to check bubs measurement and all was well above average. On a closer look at the pic of my cervix today I noticed that my cervical length is 2.6cm whereas it had been 4.7cm at the 20wk scan.

Should my cervix be shortening naturally at this stage of pregnancy or does it have more to do with the daily constant contractions I've been having ??

Thing is I specificall asked my OB 'how is the cervix, long / closed ?" and she replied, "yep very good, long and closed".............I'm confused.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Cindy,

Just had a look at my scan results and they are as follows:
19w1d scan - my cervix length was 4cm
33w2d scan - my cerix length was 3.1cm

So I would take it that it is normal for the cervix length to shorten.? Not sure why.?
And if your Obs is happy then I would try not to stress about it. Goodluck.

Don't know anything about it but found this link. I would be asking for more information from your ob.

Thanks that link was very informative becmc.

Unfortunately my OB's assistant has just told me that 2.6cm is good and to stop worrying and that if it was a concern that I would have been told as much by the OB (who now is on holidays for two weeks)

Suspose I'll just wait to see what happens.

    Thanks again for the replies.

I just looked at my CL at my 19w scan and it was 2.9cm

I think it is totally normal for your cervix to shorten as your pregnancy comes to an end.

    Hi,

It sounds like what others said is right. after all bubs is gradually trying to get lower and lower and in order for them to fit and your cervix to get ready for birth it would have to get shorter.

I hope mine is very short and opening right now lol

The weight of the bubs does naturally shorten your cervix (the first of the weight on it at 16 weeks). At 19 weeks I had a cervix of 1.6cm!! I had preterm labour..many midwifes obst have different opinions on the length. My sucessful pregnancy had a cervix stitiched and it never shortened past 3cm.
