Low Fundal Height at 27+ weeks

Just a quick question regarding fundal height. I went to my Dr last week and she said the baby was laying across me head on the right and butt on the left. No most of my kicks are in the lower half of my abdomen. I am 27+ weeks pregnant with my third bub.

Now I am 132kg and 174cm tall. I carry most of my weight around my butt and thighs, and have put on 5kg the whole pregnancy. This is my third pregnancy, and my last bub was 4385grams born in 2002 vaginally at 41 weeks + 11 days..

Anyhow today I have noticed I have lost most of my belly, its all jelly. My Fundal height is basically right on my belly button, and my kicks are definitely very quiet. With maybe one or two every few hours. I guess the biggest thing is I so want to enjoy this pregnancy but without all the kicks, and even high kicks... I feel like my progress has stalled.

So basically what I am asking is...should I be worried about the lack of fundal height, and the rare kicks....Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Thanks JAC

    Hi Jacqui
Your fundal height is not what it should because your baby is lying across you. It is not unusual for your baby not to move as much on some days he is just having a sleep

Thanks for taking the time to let me know Allan. I guess I am just hoping and wishing for the day bubs turns....but I guess that could be a little while off yet. Hopefully within the next 6 weeks would be real good.

    Thanks Again

There is still plenty of time for your baby to get into the correct position. One trick I use for breech or transverse babies is to get mum to rest on elbows and knees for 20 mins twice a day. You can do this on the bed, floor, lounge, anywhere that is comfy.
Something else you can try is to shine a bright torch on the lower part of your tummy also get a radio and put it low down on your tummy with music playing or get DP to put his head down there and talk to your baby. You could also try acupuncture/pressure.

Thanks Allan. I followed your instruction of 20 mins on my elbows and knees. And tonight I had the highest kick ever. So thanks for that my mind is at ease. I will however keep this up...as well.

    Cheers Jacqui
