Group B strep & Thrush! Help!

I am 36 weeks and just found out i am Group B Strep positive (which i had already tested positive to early on from a urine test) and have thrush. I don't really have the normal thrush symptoms so that's good. I am wondering has anyone else tested positive to both? How did it work out after labour? Also, for any GBS positive people, did your waters break early?

Any advice on how i can get rid of the two before labour? I have to have antibiotics through an IV drip in labour which i am worried could make the thrush worse too! I have suffered from oral and vaginal thrush previously because of antibiotics.

Any tips would be appreciated. I am currently taking probiotics & Vitamin C.

As far as I know, the Gp B strep may be gone by the time you go into labour. Being pos now doesn't mean that you will be later, but I am not 100 per cent sure.
On the thrush side, I have used Canesten (inserted with finger not the applicator) in pregnancy (two actually) with the okay from GPs so you could check that?
And what about the Inner Health stuff- they may be stronger probiotics than what you are taking?
    Just some ideas!

Im not sure that you can actually get rid of GBS......there are many types of bacteria in the womans vagina.A lot of women carry this form of bacteria.....and dont even know it. The only reason you know about it is because your pregnant and your baby is about to travel out the path where the bacteria is...most women dont even know they have it, coz they're are no symptoms. YOu will need AB during labour, which im sure youve been told about...but thats for your babies health. Maybe tackle the thrush first....
I had it 3 -4 times in my last pregnancy. Canesten did zilch !!!. I started taking Inner health plus and within 3 days my thrush had left the building so to speak...i also wore lots of skirts and ONLY cotton undies.....

Not sure if it helps (or is even relevant to your situation) but I was using Canesten and it did nothing so (under the advice of my GP) switched to Nilstat and it worked much better. Also, know it sounds really strange but my thrush symptoms were SO much worse when I had an iron deficiency. I was put on FGF (folate + iron) and have not had a recurrence. Hope this helps - was worth sharing just in case!
Take care and all the best.

Don't stress too much about the antibiotics during labour. My waters started leaking and I was given 96 hours to go into labour naturally. During that time they put me on really strong antibiotics to prevent an infection. I did start getting thrush by about day 2. I raised it with both my OB and the midwives at the hospital and they weren't at all worried about it.

In the end I didn't go into spontaneous labour and had to be induced. They had me on the antibiotic drip for the 11 hours that I was labouring. I ended up having an emergency CS, so don't know if bubs would have got the thrush. However, the next day I was completely unaware of the thrush I'd developed, I'm not sure if it had subsided cos I was no longer on the antibiotics or if with all the bleeding you're just not aware of it. None the less it wasn't a problem for me after the birth.

If you don't want to have the IV drip it is your right to decline it. Read up about it, ask the midwives for their varying opinions and do a personal weigh up of the risks. I'm opting out of testing all together this time round.
