Growth scan at 37wks2d - Please help!

    Hi there,

I went for a fetal growth scan this morning and it seems the littly is measuring a week behind in summary. I really didn't want to worry but have actually spent the whole day in tears fretting over it. The main thing worrying me is the Head Circumference / Abdominal Circumference ratio, which seems off...

    Measurements were:
Femur Length: 69.8 (eq to 35.6 weeks)
Abdominal Circ: 302.9 (eq to 33.4 weeks)
BPD: 93.2 (eq to 38 weeks)
Head Circ: 321.9 (eq to 36.3 weeks)
    HC/AC Ratio: 1.05

    SUMMARY: EQUIVALENT TO 36 WEEKS...

    Heart rate: 146bpm

    Amniotic Fluid: 17.68

    Estimated Weight: 2.665kg - 14th Percentile.

Is there anybody that can help me with this, should I be worried? Is it borderline, or bad? My next doctors appt is only on Tuesday and she's on leave at the moment.

Thanks for any advice and help you can give!

It seems normal to me. I am no expert but I have had late term growth scans..

My scan at 35 weeks with my DD was all over the place and she was measuring between 33 and 36 weeks.. and averaging 35 weeks..

    Hi Bokkie
Try not to worry hun your baby is fine. US scans are known to be inaccurate. Also babies grow at different rates even when they are still inside you. Trust me, your baby is fine.

My first obs said to me about u/s "If I saw a photo of you naked could I tell how old you are?" meaning that they are not necessarily accurate and that its only a guide so don't worry. You may just have a petite little bub.

please dont worry. when i went for ultrasound scans at 33 weeks, the measurements were all over the place. 2.66 kgs sounds fine to me. my little one was 3.168kgs at 39 weeks so im sure she would have been around the 2.8 mark at 37weeks.

your little one will be absolutely perfect!

Don't worry about it!! You're baby is just minding his own business in a little cocoon of happiness and contentment and growing at the same time.

You'll soon have your little baby and will fall in love and wonder what you were ever worrying about. Not far away!!

If it makes you feel better. I was born at 38 weeks weighing in at 2.2kg, there was nothing wrong with me and I turned out fine :-)

that looks ok to me. One week in differance is fine if it was 3-4+weeks behind there may be reason for concern.
My DS1 has always had a small head. He was 7wks early but HC only 30cm. Even now his head is in the 3rd percentile and legth 90th. (but as Alan said they are in acurate anyway)

just think smaller head better for you!!

Yep - I've heard too that they are inaccurate!

Check further down the list on the 3rd tri discussion okay - I'm sure there was another question similar to this one with loads of responses reflecting exactly what everyone has said here. Just more examples

My ob said at 36wks bub was 3.5kg but who knows what he'll end up weighing. Its bit of a guessing game & they can be way out...

    Dont worry okay

Thank you to everyone who has responded with your reassuring stories, Alan, your reply especially made me feel better, (coming from a midwife :-), so thank you. I plotted the measurements from her 20 week scan together with these ones and it looks to me like she's stayed on the same growth line, so maybe just always been a little small. Had a scare at ten weeks where the NT was borderline and I think thats just helped in freaking me out. I just wish that once I could go to the doctor and be told "everythings NORMAL and average", but everytime I go it just makes me worried about something else! I'll feel better when I know she's safe and in my arms! Its taken so long to get here that I think I'm just panicked it will all go pear shaped now.

    Hi Bokkie
It is nomal to be concerned especially for a first time mum.
Nothing is going to wrong now your baby is just about fully developed. At this time in your pregnancy all your baby is really doing is putting weight on.

As a pregnant first time Mum to be, I have stressed over every result too!
Ireckon we get so caught up in the little details we forget the big picture- yor bub is growing and moving and happy.
If you think about us, none of us from children to adults would measure exactly right either! I mean I have a little head. I mean, I am tall 1.7, size 12, but fit kids hats, have done all my life!! Oh and to reassure you I am reasonably intelligent with that too- have a uni degree etc LOL!!

:-) Thanks again! I'm feeling much better. And its true, none of us are carbon copies of one another, we're all different in shapes and sizes!

Wow Hawksey, not long to go now at all!! You must be so excited!
