Has anyone had a caesarean section at 38 weeks and was there any problems with bub?

    Hi everyone,

After being induced with my first son at 39 weeks after 6 weeks of having a pupps rash, i had a 26 hour labour followed by an emergency caesarean. I had the same sort of story with my second son also born by caesar in the end at 39 weeks. As i failed to progress in labour and ended up with an emergency caesarean twice i have been booked in to have my third child by caesarean by the obstetrician. They have booked me in at 38 weeks to have my baby which is a week away now as i have adhesions which is a build up of scar tissue. I am basically asking everyone, if you had a baby by c-section at 38 weeks was there any problems with the baby with breathing or anything?
Also with my second son the epidural went wrong and gave me a spinal headache and a day later i had to have a blood patch which was very painful. Has anyone had a blood patch done and if so with your next birth did the epidural go fine? i am scared they might stuff it up again? please help.

katwa - my little girl was born by cs at 38 weeks. She was fine aside from the gunk she spewed up for about 3 days after. I just had to keep her sleeping propped up, which was easy cause I had her sleeping on my chest to make looking after her easier after the cs.
I did have steroid shots for 2 days just before I had her to make sure she was ok.
    Best of luck.

    Ive had 4 c/s......

first one at 42 weeks after a 24 hour labour and no progress
second was a planned at 38weeks 5 days....pain afterwards but I was ok and so was DS
third was an emergency ay 37 weeks and 5 days because I had gone into early labour...it was my best one..no pain afterwards at all and my DD was perfect
fourth was at 39 weeks and he almost died.

Im unable to help you in regards to the spinal and epi as I had generals with all 4 due to having my disc's naturally fussed together making it impossible to get the needle in without causing permanent damage to me

What im trying to say is that EVER birth is different, even in c/s cases. Adhesions dont mean anything babe.....having 4 c/s and a tubual reversal (were I was cut across like a c/s) the doctors asked me if I was sure if I wanted my tubes taken out with my last c/s cause I still could have had more children.

My 3rd son was born by c/s (scheduled) at 38 weeks. All was fine apart from low blood sugars (I had GD) and he developed Jaundice at Day 2. but thats fairly common c/s or not as far as I know. 3 of my kids have had to go under lights and one was treated with just sunlight.

I had an emergancy c/s at 37 wks, although it turned out later we found out that DD was probably closer to 35wks However she was fine, she was VERY spweey for a few days from all the gunk in her lungs that is usually pushed out in a normal birth. She was in special care nursery for awhile (5 days) that was more for feeding issues related to her age though and not her breathing or lack of development. For a 35-36 weeker she was a good size which helped her alot but that could have been from my GD aswell.

I had 2 Epis with her, the frist one wore off after about an hour. I had a big problem mentally with the concept of the epi so each one was an ordeal but I got through it. I had a bit of pain for a week or so after that I though was strange. When I mentioned it to my GP she said that it is quite normal to be uncomfortable at the site where they do it for a few weeks as they do use a lot of pressure to get the needles in.

This is a tricky question to answer, because EDD's are not accurate, and not everyone would have been spot on 38 weeks... due dates can be a week or two out, so what we think is 38 weeks may in fact be 36 or even 40... so the baby may be fine when born or may not... its an individual and unique situation.
