Talking Hospital Bag Essentials for Tuesday!

    Hi Everyone,

My bubbarooney is arriving via c/s on Tuesday morning YAY! I am so excited to meet the little one.
I know there is a pinned thread somewhere on what to pack in your hossy bag but I cant find it plus being that you tend to stay longer with a c/s I guess you need a bit more. I think last time I packed too much for the baby but she was a summer baby and the hospital just dressed her in a hospital singlet with a nappy swaddled the whole time so I never put her anything of mine until we left.

So far I have packed the following:
Packet nursing pads & maternity surfboards
3 pairs black maternity trackie pants
    About 8 pairs of undies
    5 maternity bras
    2 maternity singlets
    2 x pj pants
1 maternity/nursing pjs (top and bottom)
    5 Tops
    Packet nappies
    2 dummies
    1 cotton wrap
1 muslim (good for b/f when visitors are there)
    3 singlets
    3 all in ones
    1 leaving hospital outfit

Also a few gifts for DD from baby

This all fits into a small travel suitcase and a green shopping bag.

Assuming I wil be in until Sunday or Monday at the latest do you think this is enough? Have I forgotten anything?

    Thanks!!

The one and only thing I remember (that I forgot to take) is really good cushioned toilet paper. But I suppose a c-section birth doesn't warrant that so much!

    Sorry I wasn't much help!

Nope, sounds good to me. Don't forget a book or two or your ipod for the time in between visitors etc. I found that even tho I was tired etc, it was a good distraction. The ipod helps to drown out the other hospital noise (esp during sleep).

Oh and perhaps a cardigan or zip up jacket/jumper. Just in case it gets a bit cold in the hospital. Or dressing gown

Good luck and can't wait to read the announcement!

    slippers
(i went to hospital via an ambulance, dressed in JUST my dressing gown, and didn't have slippers for the entire five days i was in hospital. Many times, they would have been really useful).

even if you don't feel like eating fruit, or the little packets of cut up fruit in juice on the meal trays, when they are brought to you, store these things in your bedside drawer, for times you DO feel like a snack. The first bowel motion is a milestone after your c-section, so if you can bring it on naturally (by eating fruit) instead of having to take medicine (or have a suppositry), that's one less medicine to take.

It depends on which hospital you're going to... I had my last bub at SJOG Murdoch & will be in there again this Friday for my C/S!

I'll be taking cash for vending machines... because sometimes it's the middle of the night and you just need that sugar boost when you've not eaten since 5.30pm dinner and won't be served anything again til 7am!

Also if you're going private, some places have refridgerators in your room (SJOG does) and you can take along some of your favourite drinks & snacks to keep you going... sounds like I'm all about food doesn't it!

Some private hosp's also have dvd players (my one in Geraldton did), when I ended up having an emergency caesar there, hubby went & hired dvd's for me to watch during the long quiet days recovering.

    Thanks Girls
I forgot to mention that I also have moved out of my hand bag & back into a nappy bag so that has my personal stuff including camera.
Have added to today's must buy list, magazines (nearly finished my book) and some small packets of dried fruit
I will be at Kaleeya leebee so no luxuries like a fridge but they are pretty awesome otherwise Good luck for Friday!!

Socks! Nothing worse than cold feet! I'm taking a lot more knickers too just in case the blood flow is really full on afterwards.

Oh yeah, snacks. I'll have a big fruit bowl too so I can snack on something healthy whenever I need to.

    Best of luck for tomorrow!!

Some plastic bags for your dirty laundry. I couldn't imagine anything worse than being stuck with soiled underwear in my bag. I would give my DH a bag of washing to take home with him every night when I was in the hospital.

All the very best for tomorrow. I look forward to reading your BA

    Mobile phone charger,
a notebook or baby book to write down things like 1st visitor, gifts etc,
your own pillow if you're some one who will be more comfy with this?

Looks like betweeen your original list and the suggestions everything is pretty much covered ..... will have to write all these suggestions down so I remember what to pack in 6 weeks time.

Only other thing I can suggest and don't know name for it or if it exists. Something to cool down boobies for when milk comes in - kinda like hot/cold packs????

Don't know if it happens to everyone but girlfriend of mine had baby three months ago and when her milk came through as well as going rock hard her boobs became really hot. Midwives mentioned using these packs to help ease the discomfort ???

Just a suggestion and as I said don't know if you can buy something like this.

    Best of luck
