I had an emergency caesearean with my first child and have been planning a VBAC for my second. The last few weeks however I've noticed a stinging at the ends of my scar when I shower and there seems to be some internal bleeding underneath the scar at one end too. I am obese (92kg, 164cm) and the baby bump is larger than I was last time time.... I figure the extra weight is putting more stress on the scar..... But I've never heard of the scar rupturing before labour - has anyone here experienced this?
I have an appt with my OB in 2 weeks time so will discuss it then, unless it gets worse in which case I'll go in asap!
Must be worrying for you!
My understanding is that a rupture can occur at any time, not just during labour. Talking to your OB about it is a good idea. It may be that it's just stretching?
All the best
Thanks folks, baby is still definintely alive and kicking so I'm thinking if there is a rupture, then its likely to be just one or more of the external layers. At my last appt I told him about this searing pain I've been getting at one end of the scar and he said it was just muscles stretching, but it is completely different from anything I felt in my first pregnancy. I just spent a terrifying hour online reading cases of uterine rupture - horrific stuff. Will see how it goes.
Is the scar itchy? Or the rest of your belly especially itchy? Are you using any oils to aid the skin to stretch effectively?
If not, I suggest you grab a few things and make yourself a belly oil to rub into your belly t least twice a day. Avoid BioOil - it is mostly synthetic and you can do better.
I used this mix for my pregnancies and it is simply divine!
30ml Almond Oil
15ml Wheatgerm Oil
5ml carrot oil
+ 2 drops Ylang-ylang, 1 drop neroli, 1 drop sandalwood.
Massage it liberally into your belly and boobs at least twice a day. All the way round to your back, up to your neck and down to your pubic bone.
This really helped solve the issue of burning, stinging and tearing pains and sensations in my skin-scar I was getting with my last pregnancy.
Hope that helps!
ETA: Uterine rupture is entirely different to your skin-level scar. They are not the same thing, so please stop Googling!! The risk of uterine rupture in a singleton pregnancy, regardless of mode of delivery, for a woman with previous CS history, is only .32% (Obstetrics & Gynecology: October 2007 - Volume 110 - Issue 4 - pp 801-807)

If you are really worried the best thing to do is call your care provider/hospital and they can scan your scar.
Yes it is possible.
I had a partial dehiscence at 24 weeks. I delivered (via section) at 39. I had no symptoms except some PV bleeding. They scanned my scar and could see 'something', but it was a small base hospital and I wasn't diagnosed. I was sent home on bed rest. Thank goodness. He was moving and grooving the whole time. The possibility of this happening is minute.
It's not all doom and gloom.
I also had my scar checked regularly with DD2's pregnancy. Any good tertiary scan place should be able to do it.
