How Dangerous would getting Swine Flu Be?

    Hi Ladies...

I'm hoping that one of you in your 3rd Trimester might be able to help me

How Dangerous Swine Flu would be to someone who is 32/33 Weeks Pregnant?

Would they induce the person to get the baby out so that she can be treated?

I read a few articles last Winter about a few women who died from getting Swine Flu late in their pregnancy?

Does anyone know of anyone who had this and was okay, had a healthy Delivery and healthy bub etc?

My best friend is currently in isolation in hospital with Swine Flu and no-one is allowed to see her, so I'm going out of my mind with worry!

I had swine flu last year whilst pregnant (although I was full term) and went into spontanious (sp?) labour, Bubby was born healthy and didn't show any signs of being sick, I was still allowed to BF her, I was just given the meds to help get over it, and there is a pregnant safe one they can give her...

try not to stress to much, shes in the right place being in hospital, they will keep an eye on her, and only induce if they need to.

    Thanks MummeNurse

I did the bad thing and googled! lol So it sent me into a Panic state. I thought that they might Induce her so that she could be treated. But its good to know that there is a pregnant safe way of treating it.

You've Allivated me of my worry!

I had swine flu about 5 (?) weeks ago, so would have been 31 weeks (around about). Totally freaked me out, but the midwife reassured me that as long as I was feeling normal with baby in there (kicks, no pain, etc), I just needed to make sure I got myself well and looked after myself, as the same would be good for baby.

Nothing at all interesting or life threatening for me to worry about.

Hope the same is true for your friend!

I got swine flu last year as well and I was 32/33 weeks pregnant. I was fine and baby was fine. I got treated as soon as my first symptoms showed up though - I knew what to look out for and as soon as it showed up I went to the doctor who immediately prescribed Tamiflu. DD2 didn't need to be induced or anything like that.

I think most complications of swine flu come with it not being treated or secondary infections. It wasn't fun, but it was just like having a bad flu.

I hope your friend and her baby are okay

    Hi Ladies

Thanks so much for sharing your stories! I got worried when I couldnt find any reports of things going okay!

She did get perscribed the Tamiflu and has been on that and is starting to feel better already. She's hoping to get released over the weekend.
When I spoke to her yesterday she sounded SO much better so that was really re-assuring to hear.

    Thanks again!

I had Swine Flu around 32-33 weeks. I'm now 37w 4d. Healthy and still pregnant! It is basically the same as seasonal flu only that you may have a bit hight temp. But mine did not once exceed 38 degrees, and also may take longer to get over. Mine hit pretty bad for around a week and then slowly eased of for a week. The main concern is that it increases your chances of other illnesses, as does seasonal flu. And is a littler harder to recover from while pregnant. The only thing really worrying that I experienced was fewer movements of the baby, and slightly higher fetal heartrate. But as my pregnancy has progressed to near end these things can happen normally anyway. I would definately reccommend to see a doctor, and they would discuss the pros and cons of meds. And if you had a noticably worrying decrease in baby's movements I would recommend to get that check-out straight away Good Luck!
