As the title say's i am facing a possible induction as early as this coming Wednesday if my little bubba doesn't decide to make an appearance before then....i am terrified as i have had two natural births with my boys and am really wanting to avoid an induction if i can but i dont know where to start, i should have come on earlier looking for advice but to be honest i was hoping and praying my bubba would have been here a few days ago.
I will be 41 weeks tomorrow and the reason they are talking of inducing me is because of this fact as well as i have been having BP issues throughout the pregnancy and they dont want me too go on too much beyond the 41weeks but im petrified if i get induced and bubs isnt ready it will lead to all unnessary interventions and then lead to a c-section ....please tell me i am over re-acting and everything will be ok and my bubba will be born naturally without any complications.
As you can probably tell i am beside myself, i want my baby out and i want to get him/her here as safe as possible but i can't help but stress things will all go pear shaped if i do go ahead and have an induction.
Please ladies tell me anythign and everything you can to prepare me for this....sorry for this long winded rant, thanks for reading
Lots of inductions do lead to c-sections - and you know that. But thats ok - because you ARE aware of it, and don't want to go down that road, so already, being educated you are ahead of most people out there being induced. For a successful induction story though - my mum was induced with me (her 3rd child also) and she had me in 3 hours. I was posterior as well. Sooo not ALL inductions end in c-sections (it just seems like it!)
When I was 9 days over my midwife told me to shake my body. So do that. Shake from your head down to your toes, and shake that belly!!!! I got a contraction after each time I did it, and I would do it for ... about 2 mins? each time. So give that a go. You feel like a right doofus shaking the crap outta yourself, but I swear - it works.
Also - I wasn't keen on acupuncture (i'm not the biggest fan of needles) so I had an osteo treatment as well, and she loosened the muscles around bub (myo something) and I attribute that to helping as well.
Good luck sweet - I'm thinking you will go tonight. Have a nice relaxing bath, a glass of red (hehehe) and go to bed early and just RELAX. Try to stop thinking about your deadline.
Hi!!!I was also really worried too,im afraid to say I ended up with a c-section but thats only because when you hear my story you will know why, from about 24 weeks My bub was measuring small and so i had to have regular monitoring and they induced me at 38 weeks as babys heartrate wasnt good anyway so they booked me in for a friday and i had to go in on the thursday to fill in some forms anyway they checked me over and said change of plan you having this baby now (i nearly passed out)anyway,i was so scared,so they did an internal and found i was 2 cms dilated so said instead of using the gel they would just break my waters and put the drip in the arm,so within an hour I had my waters broken and a drip in and was in full blown labour, the drip seems to get the contractions going really well and quick and strong, anyway so i was 4 cms but bubs heartate was so stressed so thats why they did c-section,they said it was highly likely with me because of bubs getting so sstressed (and was already before hand)and they suspected the cord(which was spot on thankfully they did do a c-sec)I know that when you are induced theres more chance of having one but i know heaps who have been induced and havent, theyve just said the birth was alot quicker so i only had the c-sec because bubs was stressed to start with,if she wasnt and i was dilating quicker and they didnt suspect the cord i think all would of been good, saying that the c-section was fine,it happened so fast I didnt have time to think but I would seriously have one again no worries if had to,i was up walking the next day fine.I really wanted to go into labour naturally too and tried different things to get her to come but nothing worked but I think being as youve already had 2 natural births,if they bring this baby on its going to just fly on out no worries, hehe sorry i mean you will have no problems and not sure how long your labour was before but usually there alot quicker you just dont get the longer labour what i mean is the drip pretty much made me in full labour real quick,my hubby and sister went to get a cuppa and me laying there going yeh yeh alls good they came back minutes later to a very different me!!,how exciting all the best!!
I was induced as my BP suddenly esculated at 38.5wks. From start to finish was 10hrs no pain relief and no C-Section. Just ask them to try the gels first not the drip (sorry forget the names) and see if that gets things started. I hope your bubba comes before Wednesday.
Also my Ob said after I had DS that ladies with BP trouble tend to labour a bit more quickly due to the body wanting to get rid of the cause. Not sure how true that is.
I was induced at 38 weeks and had a vaginal birth. My cervix was nowhere near ready so had the works, gel, rupture of membranes, drip and epidural. Only took seven hours from the start of the drip to bub coming out. Just do a bit of research and decide the order of things you want. Sometimes the gel will start things off nicely, sometimes it wont. Having an induction is not always a bad thing and having already had two bubbas might mean things happen very quick once they get started artificially.
Good Luck!

: should proof read before posting
I had inductions with all my babies and vaginal births and very good recoveries with no complications.
Has the OB explained to you how he/she is going to induce you? If you cervix is 'ripe' it may just be a matter of some gel to get things moving.
I have had the gel with DS1 and my water's broken with DS2 and DD and that really kicked things into action.
You could try accupuncture or reflexology? Perhaps put a post in the Professional Panel to see if they have any suggestions.
You have the added advantage of having gone into labour on your own in the past and know what is going on with your body, you will do fantastically
I was induced with my last child 9 days overdue. A few more kids then you. But I they broke my water 2 hours later I had my first contraction 1 hour after that my son was here.. My cousins girlfriend just got induced with her first and was only in labour for about 5 hours and bub arrived.
Thanks so much for the replies ladies i really appreciate them, i can't say im not still stressing but it makes me feel a little better knowign that not ALL inductions end in c-sections.
Mel, i think i will take your advice again and go shake myself ....your advice about the breech bub worked so im going to give this a crack and hopefully i will be in labour sometime soon I know i have to stop thinking about the damn deadline but it's so hard.
1pj, Thanks for sharing your story with me. My first labour was 21hours and my second was only 1hr44mins from start to finish so i would expect this one to be a fast one too but if it's induced i have no idea what to expect. Hoefully Mel's suggestion on shaking myself does the trick and i will avoid an induction.
Hansie..thanks for your support. I have been doing some reading and i will be asking for the gel first should i need to be induced, i will tell them i want to go whatever way is least likely to end in a c/section.
muminalice, thanks for your reply. At my appointment last week the dr told me my cervix was ready then the drs at the hospital said i wasnt ready so im hoping that at least my cervix is now ready to go and therefore is favourable should an induction be needed.
Heather.... thanks for the reply it's nice to hear that inductions dont always mean things will go wrong. They mentioned using the gel but to be honest i didnt really listen too much as i honestly expected bub to have been here a few days ago...maybe i should have listened a little more, but i will know more on Wednesday. I have faith in my body it's not that im worried about im just worried about the induction and all the things that might come with it ykwim?
Socks, wow that was a quick birth for both of you...
