    Massage During Pregnancy

    Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone has information about the best practice for massage during 3rd trimester pregnancy? I am having twins, so am quite large and look about full term.

I recently had an awful experience at a country victorian day spa...worst massage ever (and that doesn't include the treatment from the manager/owner when I made a complaint).

I was expected to lie on a mat with a space for the belly. When this was uncomfortable I asked to be massaged on my side. They did this, poorly. It was really an unpleasant experience.

When I complained, I was told by the manager/owner that I am the first person to not be comfortable with this (they massage lots of people, including full term women with twins...etc...in other words, I am the problem, and no one does side massage any longer for Occ Health and Safety reasons). All of this happened in spite of a request at booking to have the massage in the side position because I suspected that I would not be comfortable lying on my stomach using a pregnancy mat.

Anyway, I am interested if anyone has any experience of massage when approaching full term and the techniques used by the therapist to ensure comfort etc.

Miss honey, a more comfortable position is to stradle a chair backwards with pillows under your tummy and breasts. You lean on the back of the chair for support.
I had a massage like this at 36 weeks and it was fantastic, and I have also performed pregnancy massages in this position.
Ring a few places and ask if they do pregnancy massage and if they have a seated massage option.
    Good luck
