    What am I feeling, is it BH or could it be the start of something?

    Last night I woke up with pains (not strong, more uncomfortable than anything else) in the top area of my belly. They were coming and going and after a couple of hours I fell back asleep. At the time I just figured they must be BH, but I haven't experienced them before so can't be sure. And I do remember the midwife at my hospital classes saying that real contractions will be in the top of your belly...

    When I woke up this morning, I felt really odd (and still do now). I can't quite put finger on it but I am a little bit feverish (having a few hot flush type moments), have no energy, don't feel like eating and I did have a bit of diahorea (sp?) this morning. But I still have the pains in my belly. They are now coming and going in all different places and I do have a light period type pain as well. I haven't had a show or anything.

    I did start taking RL tables on Saturday, I've been having a couple of cups of the tea everyday for the last week or two, but have just stepped up to the tablets. I'm wondering if the pains/sensations I'm feeling in my belly are just the RLT starting to do its thing, braxton hicks, or could it be something getting started? Should I call my OB, call the hospital, or just lay down on the couch and take it easy?

    Any words of wisdom you can offer this uncertain first timer would be great.

    Thanks

    Miss Excited - I would think they are BH but as a first time mum myself I find it really hard to know whats going on! I've had odd crampy pains as well, more in the top of my bump than anywhere else ad I tihnk they are BH because they dont seem to have any sort of regularity about them. Do yours feel deep or shallow? Mine feel quite shallow, and I imagined that real contractions would feel deeper as well as being far more regular of course. I say ring the midwife and ask - its the best way to ease your mind Good luck!!

    I'd probably give them a call. explain the feelings and that you have started the RLT.

    might have to lay off on the tea for a bit by the sounds of it

    hi ME - I drank RLT last time and i would feel something like what you are talking about - a lot more if i drabk it for a few days. i am about to start it again for this preg and wonder if i will feel the same...
    Anyway, worth calling midwives to make sure (esp with feeling off and temperature etc) - better to know... they may tell yuo to lay off the tea and see if that helps...
    let us know!

    I get plenty of BH's but they are never rhythmic. If you do start to see a pattern I'd call your care giver.
