    Nervous about my VBAC!

    Hi girls,

I am 36 weeks pregnant with baby no 2. With my 2 year old, I had to have an elective csection due to her being breech. I have my 36 weeks appt this afternoon and the Doctor will do a scan and tell me the position of the baby. If bub is head down. O will be tring for a VBAC!

Up to this point I have been feeling excited about my VBAC, but the last few days I feel more nervous! What has other experiences with a vbac been like? Were you able to move around while in labour or did you have to stay on the bed?

    Thanks for any replies!

Congratulations on your pregnancy firstbub, and good luck for your upcoming birth.

There are lots of VBAC stories and discussions around the forums. If you have a look in the sub-forums under 'Labour & Birth' there is a specific section for VBAC discussion.

Good luck! Wishing you all the best for a fantastic VBAC experience!

I understand your nervousness, I was too even though I had had 2 previous VBs.
I put it down to the 'special treatment' that VBACs get - the monitoring etc.
Keep telling yourself there is no reason to worry! Your last baby was breech - there's no reason you can't do this. It would ben just like any other first labour, with a little extra monitoring

I was put on the monitor as soon as I got into the labour ward. I asked the middy about being able to move around etc & she said 'let's just see what this trace says first'.

In the end I sat on the bed for the entire labour, but not because it was a VBAC but because bub was very high still, I was 9cm dilated & my waters hadn't roken, she was worried about cord prolapse if I moved around & my waters broke before bub engaged.

Apart from being stuck on the bed, it was fine different from my other VBs but also just the same if that makes sense.

    Good luck

    Hi Firstbub!

I'm 28 weeks and hoping for a VBAC. My first is 2 years old in 2 weeks and he was born by emergency c-section because he was undiagnosed breech, so I feel like I'm in a very similar boat to you, even though I haven't yet got experience to share The hospital is doing an ultrasound to check our bub's position at 34 weeks.

I understand your nervousness. I'm not feeling too worried at the moment because I did start labour by myself and got right up to 7cms dilated without using any pain relief before having the spinal block and the c-section. I've been listening to hypnotherapy CDs and affirmations, as well as reading up on VBACs and empowered births. My midwife has been really supportive with answering my VBAC questions and helping me prepare my birth plan. Not to mention reading all the inspirational VBAC stories on BB You, like me, have a really good chance at achieving a VBAC because we had our c-sections due to breech babies.

Whether you can move around or not will depend on your Hospital's policy or like Jasp it could depend on what happens on the day. My Hospital, for example, insist that because I'm attempting a VBAC I have to labour in the main maternity birthing suite even though I'm cared for by the birthing centre midwifes. But there are wireless monitors available, so I won't have to be tied to the bed. Even if you're hooked up to the regular monitors, you can ask that they monitor you at intervals so that you can move around or hop in the shower. The Hospital OB wants to insert a canula, but I have nice big veiny hands so I know they can insert one quickly if they have to, so I'll delay the canula as long as possible.

Good luck with your scan today, I hope Bub is head down for you

Thank you for the replies and advice. My appt went pretty well. Baby is head down and growing well. As I am going through the public hospital, it was a different Doctor than last time. This Doctor didn't seem that suppoprtive of a VBAC, where as the Doctor last time was very encouraging. He said to take away the information brochure and to come to a definite decsiion in 2 weeks.

I really do want to have a go so I think I will just stick to my guns. It is really hard when you get different professionals telling you different things. It makes you doubt your own decisions......

I know! Doesn't it just make you want to....
to me, this is all the more reason to stick to your guns, if you are making an informed decision & everyone tells you something different the best thing to do is what is right for you
