    nesting, nutter style

When I was pg with DS, I only had 5 days off work before my waters broke ... nesting was odd - I *had* to redo the household budget, I *had* to realphabetise the bookshelf - twice (once by genre and author, the other time by re/unread and author) and a whole bunch of other things ...

    This time?

I have 4 weeks, and have been pottering, sleeping, doing some housework, doing some gardening, getting out a bit, cooking, laundry, paperwork ...

But yesterday and today - I'm just about having to physically restrain myself from going to Spotlight, Lincraft, Cleggs, etc ...

I don't sew. I don't knit. I don't do decoupage. I don't embroider. There is nothing at Spotlight that I would actually know what to do with ... ! There's a few things like canvasses and paints - but I have supplies still at home ... !

And yet, I really, *really* want to go! I want to go and buy fabric ...

What strange nesting urges have you had?

I had to bake rock cakes. Lots and lots of rock cakes. Now I haven't made a batch since the day before I went into labour, 10 months ago.

I brought enough toilet paper and washing liquid for 12 pregnant women *just in case*. Still not sure what it was in case of, but I didn't have to buy toilet paper for a really really long time.

I had to clean the skirting boards. The baby just wasn't going to come unless the skirting boards were clean.

With DS? The pantry HAD to be completely cleaned and organised

With DD? The ensuite cupboard HAD to be sorted, organised and ready for when she arrived home

this thread is hilarious!! mine are pretty mundane, i reorganised the kitchen cupboards twice in the 3rd trimester with DS and i also ate frozen raspberries with black and gold vanilla icecream (no other brand was ok, to the point of DH having to return one tub!!) every night and sometimes for lunch i also rearranged the lougeroom and nursery multiple times and washed and ironed everything i could get my hands on (my biggest bout of ironing brought on a haemorage at 31wks), a week before DS came i HAD to sort thru all my makeup and creams etc (of which i have far too many) and cull the ones i wasnt using/didnt want and ended up throwing out heaps of stuff i regretted later.

Floors. Had to be spotless. Just the floors, nothing else mattered.

I *had* to wash my car! Never mind the house, I had to wash the car. So here I was at some 40 weeks pregnant (stupid being overdue) at one of those wash it yourself places commonly used by taxi drivers - with said taxi drivers looking over their shoulder at me shaking their heads and grinning as I ended up with big wet splotches on my bump trying to get at that stubborn bit of bird poo on the roof

haha I love it. go buy some, you can make it a project to learn to make something with it.

only weird one I'm having is ice cube tray refilling. I'm into ice blocks atm and I think ill be wanting them in labour but its gotten extreme. I have 8 ice trays that I'm refilling and saving the ice from up to 5 times a day. my freezer is full of containers filled with ice blocks. I just can't stop!

DH got an ice machine for his birthday last week... it makes 18kg of ice a day :-), which is fantastic for ice crunching

I really, really want some red and green tartan cotton ... I have no idea what I would do with it - drape it somewhere maybe ...

And I want to bake a cake. DH and I don't really eat cake - but maybe he could take it to work tomorrow?

And the papers - but they really do need to get done. so I don't think that's silly - I've been making progress there, and I've been putting it off for months.

Right now though, I'm deciding whether I'm going to chop up some pineapple or mango to eat with some cream. lunch!

if your DH doesn't want to take the cake to work, i'd be happy to take it off your hands

i haven't really had any urges this time - other than tidying the linen cupboard (which was strange for me!).

last time though i HAD to bake...almost every day. now, i do like to bake but this was out of control! and donuts - i HAD to make donuts & did, quite a few times. DP was putting on weight at an alarming rate.

I had to clean the car inside and out, I did it on my first day of leave yesterday it had been bugging me for ages. Normally it gets cleaned about every six months

I keep buying washing liquid and cling wrap don't ask me why

And I have an urge to plant flowers but I'm restraining myself as my brown thumb makes it an expensive task. Generally anything outside I'm happy to handball to DH

    Haha! This thread is hilarious!

I had to keep the house spotless and all the jobs needed to be up-to-date so that when bubs came there was no backlog. It got to the point where I was doing a load of washing every day (and lets face it, not much was in it with just two adults in the house), including ironing the one or two tops used each day. I hate ironing. I don't actually think I've done it since DD was born. I've handballed the job to DH. Things had to be so up-to-date that even when labour started (and it was only quick) I was cleaning the kitchen and doing washing just to keep up-to-date....

LOL Chody, I am still obsessed with being 'up to date'. I actually have been using the term backlog a lot lately. Oh no! lol.

My nesting urges were pretty normal. Normal for nesting anyway. I just *had* to do the 6 months worth of filing bills and papers that had built up. (Thank goodness I did, I now haven't filed since DS was born 10 months ago!! Hellooo Mt Filemore.)
I just *had* to rearrange the lounge. Several times.
I just *had* to bleach the showers. (with a shirt tied around my face like some kind of renegade motorcyclist to avoid the fumes )
I became tempted to move house. I think that one was the most hilarious.

    Ahh nesting. Good times!
