    Question Placenta question

    Hi everyone,

I have been for my 32 week scan this morning to see if my placenta had moved because at 20 weeks it was just 6mm from my cevix. Good news it's moved it's now 7cm from my cervix but she couldn't tell me if that was far enough for a natural birth. Wich leads me to my question...

Does anyone know how far from the cervix they need your placenta to be for a VB?

I have my next midwiife appointment a week tomorrow and they won't tell me anything till then

    Hey Girl,
Sorry I can't be too much help, but my sis was 38 weeks and the placenta was over the cervix. They booked in a CS then she had another scan just to be sure and it had moved out of the way. I am not sure how many centimeters, but it can't have been much given that it was over it just the week before. Maybe Google it to see what it means - placental preavia (sp?) it is called - to see how many cms are recommended.

    Good luck hun

It needs to be at least clear of the lower segment of the uterus, so when the cervix dilates no portion of the placenta will be affected
its hard to give an exact measurement...

    Thanks for that yoga baby.
What is classed as the lower segment of the uterus?
My sonographer couldnt tell me if I needed another scan to make sure it moves further up. *hugs*

if the placenta is within a few cm's of the cervix they will prob want another scan...7cms sounds far enough away for it not to be of any concern

the lower segment is the lower half of your uterus

It would deepend on your OB but most ppl would consider 2cm safe
