you should get something from the hospital stating what they require you to bring. I think it might also have some bearing if you go private or public, thou, dont quote me on it. I am going private, and this is the list they have told me:
    - Comfy casual cloths to wear during the day
    - Nightwear, dressing gown and slippers
    - Underwear - approx 6 pairs. (i have like 14 packed )
    - Maternity bras - 3pairs
    - Nursing Pads
    - Cloths for your baby (but, my hospital provides wraps and t/shirts - which we can use, or provide our own.) But, make sure you have cloths for baby to go home in
    - Toiletries
    - Tissues (ooops, dont have them packed)
    - Sanitary Pads - (i have 3 packs of full maternity type ones, and 1 pack of normal use pads)
    - Washing powder/liquid
    - Hairdryer
    - Personal Music Player
    - Pen, Address book, thank you cards, stationary,
    - Novels, magazines
    - Sibling gifts if needed
    - Favourite pillow
    - CAMERA!!!
    - If planning on F/Feeding, then bottles, teats and formula.

I have also packed in extra toothbrush for DH, deodrant, and his hair gel. As well as 2 pairs of undies, swimming shorts, trackie pants and jumper.

Have packed magazines for DH as well. Some UNO cards. Milo, a mug, mars bars, lollypops, and some other lollies.

At home, on a shelf in the babys room, i have a stash of fruit, nuts, dried apricots, books, breast pump, and some rice biskets etc so that if i want DH to bring them in, its easy for him to find.

See what your hospital provides for you ... like mine provided all of babys clothhes so I only had to bring something to take her home in. They also provided pads and nappies so I didnt have to bring any of those.
Apart from that, bring some really crappy underpants and comfy clothes!
I'm sure others can give some good suggestions!

nope - i know my list of what to take off by heart now!
But, certainly check with your hossi as to what they supply. I forgot mine also supply 1 packet of maternity pads, as well as disposable nappies etc.

My hospital gave me a list of things i needed to bring. They provided all clothing and blankets etc for bubs, so just needed going home clothes and nappies and wipes for him.
A good one though, they dont tell you.. is take some rubber thongs to shower in! Dont wanna be standing in other's yuckies AND take granny undies!!

Same here the hospital gave us a list, but they don't provide much.
As someone else said they were taking milo, neither of us drink tea or coffe, so i think I will do something similar.
To save room in my bags I'm packing a plastic bag of extras for the car, like extra pack of pads etc so that if I need it i just have to tell dh after the birth to go and get it out of the car. That way we won't have too much stuff in the room with us.
Toiletries are hard though, some people have suggested to me sample size shampoo and conditioner, Yet I haven't seen any around, so I'm going to get some of those little bottles and fill them up.

Oh I almost forgot, I'm packing some zip lock bags to put dirty stuff and toiletries in so everything doesn't get wet.

I wouldn't bother with washing powder as there may not b somwhere to wash clothes, Just take a week worth n u'll feel fresh as a Daisy. Make sure the undies u pack r old daggy ones coz u'll want to get rid of them. If u plan on hiring the telly don't bother with reading material, Its just extra weight. Pack twice as many nursing pads as sanitary ones (u use them twice as fast as there are 2). engorged bbs leak a lot! at least 5 packs of each! take spare pj's as u will leak milk on them.

If you think of something u really want/need a visitor would more than likely b willing to get it for you so don't stress about packing the kitchen sink. If you run out of room in your bag just take less clothing n get DP to take dirties home n bring cleans in for you next day.

Ensure u have enuf 4 a week as if u have an emergency caeser u will stay in hossy for longer than 1st thought

PUT THE CAR SEAT IN WITH AT LEAST 4 WEEKS TO GO!!!! U don't want to worry about that when ur in labour!

Just put what I learned 1st time round.

Everyone keeps saying what are u taking in your bag? my question is how on earth are u going to get all that stuff actually into one bag?

shouldnt it be "what are you taking in your suitcase, hand luggage and duffle bag? LOL

Hi - I started getting some stuff organised today for my hossy bag. Other things to consider are disposable nappies and wet-wipes and face-washers. Also, a list of phone numbers to call when baby is born and a mobile phone. Enjoy your new arrivals girls and hope you have a relaxing hospital stay (I'm actually looking forward to that week; the time to recover in bed and have meals served)
