? Nausea and burping part of heartburn?

Hello, as one suddenly and excruciatingly inflicted with several days of extreme gastric discomfort, can anyone tell me whether nausea and burping are a part of pregnancy induced heartburn/reflux, or have I had a dodgey meal somewhere?

    Hi Mary!!

Unfortunetely its pretty normal. I have this type of heartburn all the time. Esp at night lately. I hate when i burp cause it brings up more acid and burns the hell out of my chest. I sometimes get it that bad that i vomit. Somtimes just getting the acidy stuff out helps ease it.

I read in my nursing dictionary that the nausea and burping is associtated to indigestion. Where as the just burning sensation is just heartburn.

I normally take Rennies. They are pretty good. Otherwise just milk.

Hope it eases up for you soon.

HI Mary Welcome to the wonderful world of heartburn. What your saying are definitely the results of heartburn. Hopefully bubs will go lower soon, and your symptoms may ease. Mine come and go depending on how I sit, lay, or what I eat.

I find milk works good to Sara.

Thanks, Sara & Jacqui. I've had reflux in the past (non pregnant) and this is a million times worse. I actually wondered if I'd eaten something dodgey as the first night it happened I felt nauseous and sick for most of the next day too.

    No worries Mary!

I am also a normally sensitive eater when i am not pregnant. I can't eat to much oily or garlicy stuff.

When i am pregnant i find that if i eat something that does'nt aggree with me ie - something really oily, i am kept up most of the night with the nausea too. Mine was so bad with Briley i lost a lot of weight cause there was just so much that i could'nt eat.

If it gets too bad just see your Dr. They might be able to put you on something to help it if you would like.

    Good luck!

Sara, I will definitely discuss it with my dr, as I've just been reading some archived BB threads where ppl have raved about how effective Zantac was for them. No point suffering needlessly, I say!

I think I'll go and have a glass of milk now, Jacqui!

    Yep, gotta love the rennies....
Ive also found (this may sound reallllllly weird) but depending on what mood im in i tend to get heartburn worse some nights more than others - does that make sense? If im stressed, flustered, got a lot on my mind, i tend to get heartburn guaranteed...wheareas if im more relaxed, tired and just chilling out, i dont get it....weird...

Oh my! Thank you! Thank you!

This started in the last couple of nights for me. When it was late, and depending on how I'm sitting. I'm just burping a lot and then getting that real burning feeling .....I figured it was acid reflux/indigiestion, but now I know how to combat it.

I'll have the milk on stand-by tonight. Thanks.

LOL! I actually hate chewing anything chalky and much prefer the liquid Gaviscon. The milk worked alright too last night, after the Gaviscon had settled the original attack down. In the meantime, DH is endlessly amused by my constant melodic burping!

Mbear, I hear you about the stress, that's what brings reflux on for me when I'm not pg.

heh heh heh, no it's not just you mbear! and it's such a vicious cycle - as soon as I get the sensation it makes me feel even more stressed!
MD did you try Zantac? I find that quite good, one at night, and am trying to manage it during the day with Mylanta... but might make the pilgrimage over to the shrine of liquid Gaviscon soon!
Oh - and YES to the burps. Nothing worse than a burning sicky burp - especially if it's just after dinner at a friends' house and emerges without warning. Luckily they are preg too and have the same prob!

    Hi Marydean!

Gotta love it!! The heartburn has just started for me as of last week and i've noticed that if i eat anything meaty or anything with even a tiny bit of spice or chilli it sends me off, including the burping and feeling like i'm going to vomit...

I've found that if i chew "Extra" gum (the pellets, they're stronger) within seconds its gone and doesn't return... weird!

Also it's worse for me if i'm lying down, so i usually prop myself up in bed and it helps too...

I get this too! The burning is the worst, but the burping is plain annoying!

Ok, I haven't gone down the Zantac route just yet, as it settled down after the first few days (mostly due to the fact that I'm too scared to eat very much in one sitting - would rather stay hungry than feel blah again), but the constant musical burping has not gone away!

    Marydean,

I have had really bad heartburn with this pregnancy. I was like drinking Mylanta throughout the day as opposed to taking it when needed! It was suggested i take Zantac and boy does it do wonders. I take one tablet when i feel that the heartburn is about to begin and keeps heartburn at bay for hours. I've tried Rennie, Mylanta chewies and they did absolutely nothing.
Just remember, that its not just eating big meals but certain foods can cause heartburn too.
I was told that the heartburn would reside by 36 weeks, but i'm 38 weeks and it's still here! Can't wait for tomorrow's c/s as i will finally get rid of heartburn for good!
    Goodluck!

I got extremely bad heartburn around 30wks, it was soooo bad I often didn't sleep. DH would wake to find me watching the Letterman show (boring) at some stupid hour of the morning. It was always in the evening & often I couldn't even keep food down, it wouldn't even digest before i bought it up again (i know, gross!!!). Anywho, I hated the chalky taste too, so I recommend TUMS they actually don't taste too bad & would work instantly, for the heartburn. Though towards the end it got sooooo bad I couldn't keep a proper meal down, not breakfast, lunch or tea. My doc eventually prescribed me LOSEC which turns out both my father & MIL are on....LOL they say you need them when you get older. They lower the acid levels in your stomach & were brilliant!!!!! no harm to bubs either.
