I've been off the computer for about a week so I have some catching up to do.
Now I've said that I now have GD and now it is ruling my life. I'm now on insulin which hasn't made a great lot of difference yet, they upped the dose yesterday so I hope it starts to be a bit better. I have insulin four times a day and I take readings on the levels 6 times a day. I wish I didn't have to because I'm so tired. I watch everything I eat, everything is low fat, low salt, no sugar. So no more sugar fixes!
But I guess when it comes down to it I've only got 9 weeks to go, so that's ok.
I'll be having an ultra sound next week to see how the baby is going and I'm in touch with diabities people every couple of days and I have to go to the obstetrics clinic once a week now, so my life has become a big book of appointments. I also have to go to the nearest base hospital to have the baby, which is an hour away from home, because I'm classed as high risk because of the GD and the fact that I'm on insulin.
Well. I'll be reading up on everyone later, take care all, big tummy rubs
Rose,
Sorry to hear that the GD has been hard for you to control. I can't comment on the insulin but I understand the constant watching what you eat and monitoring your blood sugar levels is a PITA. I keep telling myself that it is all for the good of me and bubs. I have 2 and a bit wks til my due date and I tell you I can't wait until I go back to 'normal'. The last few weeks have been getting harder to eat properly......... (Don't want to put you off). I go back to the GD clinic on Friday, so hopefully they will 'push' me out for another fortnight and then I will have my baby by then (here's hoping anyway).
With your diet are you 'grazing/snacking' rather than having big main meals? This helped me to control the sugar levels better.
Yep I'm only having small meals and I mainly snacking on dry bickies and fruit, I'll have a cup of tea with no sugar, my meals are all made so they are low in fat and salt and I'm avoiding all sugary foods. I don't know what else to do really. I still feel like I need a good meal, actually I feel like having a sausage roll, but I won't of course. I'm also eating soy and linsead bread and peanut butter with no butter, if I get really hungry. Not a wide viarity I must say. I might have some fish and vegies for tea tonight.
What kind of things to you fill up on?
Despite what I'm eating my levels are remaining high, I'll ring the diabetic lady up on thursday, it's on the cards that they might put me in hospital for a week to get them under control, I'm currently classed as an out patient. I guess it's what and see.
It's just such a stressful thing really...
Good luck with everything else, at least you don't have long to go now Take care.
Hi sajemsha, sorry to hear about your GD...I have it too... It drives me nutso all the time. I had it with my last one too. One thing I found that after living life with sugar in most of my meals everday, it was so hard to just break the habit straight away. We never think we would be diabetic, then when we get it, so hard to change habits. So I started scouring the internet for recipes to work on so I could change. I thought as well as keeping the GD in order it would also benefit myself as I was overweight at the time. I found a website that has heaps and heaps of recipes with all the info on the carbs, cals, fat amounts etc... It is an American site, but still plenty of yummy dishes to make and some are very quick and easy to make. Also good for the budget minded householder! $$... Here is the link: http://diabeticgourmet.com/recipes/ Happy reading and good luck with the pregnancy & your delivery.
Thanks Sandy, I'll check out the site, hopefully there will be something nice to make, I'm getting so bored with what I'm eating now. I've been on the insuline now for about 10 days and it's not made any difference, they say it will be upped until it's good, then because I'm more pregnant they'll up it again. It sounds like it's never going to be perfect until I have this baby, it's going to be a long nine weeks!
Thanks again
