    Is this sciatica?

The last 4 days I have had a terrible pain in my left bum cheek by it feels really deep. Like I have pulled a muscle. It hurts when I walk, sit or lie down. Can't win really. It is not constant pain, more like sharp pain when I turn or shift weight from one side of my body to the other.

I never had this with my first pregnancy.

Should I see a physio? I don't have another midwife appointment until I am 34 weeks. Should i Call them?

    Is this sciatica?

Sounds like it hon I suffered with both my girls. See a good physio who specialises in pregnancy, it does help a lot. I did find that giving birth really was the best solution though but physio did give me relief when it was bad.

Yes, that's classic sciatica hon. And I agree about a Physio. They will massage it to help and ask for some stretches to do at home. Stretching will help you alleviate it a bit at home.

You may find some days will be worse than others depending on where bub is sitting.

Thanks girls. Will try and find a good physio.

Did you have any trouble with our labour/birth because of it?

    Is this sciatica?

I had an elec c-sect but it shouldn't affect your labour. The pressure on the nerve should decrease because bub will move off it. If that makes sense. The pain caused by sciatica is usually due to compression or touching of the nerve. Once that compression is released, the pain stops. Does that make sense?

I have suffered with this for as long as i can remember (to the point that I literally couldn't walk xmas 2011 because it went). I has it right through my pg with dd2.
It didn't affect my labour of birth. Try as much as you can to stretch it out (i can show you some if you like one night). That really helped me. As did warm baths/hot wheat bags (Last thing you want to do in the heat!)

I still get sciatica pain on and off but if you can continue to stretch it out it doesn't last as long or as horrible.
Give me a call if you want me to show you anything. xx

    Thanks again girls.

    MG- that makes total sense.
BS- thanks Hun. Sorry to hear you suffered your whole pregnancy. I don't know how you put up with the pain that long! Glad to hear it didn't effect your labour.

The pain feels a bit better today but definitely going to try and find a physio that can help so I can get it cleared up.

No trouble with labour either times for me It was like instant pain relief (well kinda, lol!) once I went into labour. I had brilliant births however both girls were posterior. Not sure if the two were related though.

Sorry to hear you are in pain Alibaby does the pain travel down your leg or stay in the same place?

There are actually 2 conditions it could be sciatica or pelvic girdle pain.

With sciatica the pain 'usually' travels down the leg. And sometimes you can get pins and needles in your feet and toes. It's caused by the nerve being 'pinched'

With pelvic girdle pain, the pain stays in the hip area and can spread across the hips. It's caused by the hips being out of alignment (happens easily with relaxin in your system).

I've had both in pregnancy. Physio and chiro is the best option in either case.

For your sake I hope it's not sciatica, as that can continue past pregnancy.

Yep Sounds like it. I had it with DD one. Was awful but only lasted a few weeks, guess she was sitting on my nerve.

    Hope it goes away.
