Just wanted to offer somehope you feel better soon. xx
So yesterday afternoon I start getting a scratchy throat. Took some Vitamin C hoping that it was nothing, or I was imagining it and for the most part still felt okay. But had a horrible night last night, could not sleep at all (even more than usual) and woke up this morning with a sore throat, runny nose, sneezing, headache etc etc.
And it's three days till my due date!!!! I'm so upset and annoyed by it, I cannot believe the timing. I had a cold back in January, but aside from that I've been perfectly healthy my whole pregnancy, I can't believe this is happening NOW. I wasn't too worried about labour before, but now I'm really anxious about being in labour when I'm already sick and have no energy and can't breathe through my nose properly, and I'm worried I'm going to make my baby sick the minute he/she is born. Or that I won't be able to hold him/her or breastfeed for fear of making him/her sick.
Someone please tell me that I'm being overly paranoid and it's really not much to worry about? Has anyone ever gone into labour with a cold/flu before??![]()
Just wanted to offer somehope you feel better soon. xx
Hope your little one decides to come late, once you're all better!
My parents came to visit us in hospital the day after DD was born, my little brother came too and he was quite sick with a cold. He just wore a face mask while he was in the room, I was so worried DD, or even me or DF would catch it as a few days later both mum and dad came down with it as well! We escaped it though...
Having a cold is probably more reason to breastfeed, as your milk/colostrum will provide bub with some protection from the cold so don't worry about not being able to if you are still sick. Lots of rest and lots of water! Hope you're feeling better soon![]()
When I was near the end (probably about 2wks to go) of my pregnancy with DS2 I got the flu. It was baddddddd. It's like my body waited until I was well enough from the flu to let the baby come.
Before I got the flu I had a lot of BH and all that normal prelabour jazz, but it all stopped when I had the flu then started right back up again afterwards.
I hope your little bubba waits until you're all better.
All the best with everything. Feel better soon.
xox
Double post. oops.
You'll be just fine.It might be another two weeks before bubs comes and you'll be all better. If not, don't worry you will certainly find energy and strength that you didn't know you had. xx
Bfing a newborn when you have a cold is the best thing you can do for their immunity to it. And plenty of handwashing.
But hopefully you'll be better soon and won't have to worry about it. I hope you recover quickly!![]()
What a pain! You could always go see a doctor and ask if there's anything they can give you, particularly if you show no signs at all of improvement. I had bronchitis in late pregnancy (although earlier than you, it was about 34 or 36 weeks), and I ended up getting penicillin injections to help.
Try not to worry too much though - your body is an amazing thing, and I also suspect you'll find strength and resources you didn't realise you had! The hormones that get to work to help your body labour efficiently are amazing, and you may find your nose clears for labour anyway.
As for the feeding, I agree that you'll pass on some protection from your milk, and you can help out a bit with remembering hygiene where you can. And while snuggling with a new bub is an amazing thing, it won't hurt to hand bub to dad if you need and say 'err I have a cold so I need to sleep. You can snuggle baby and just wake me for feeds'.
All the best with the birth, whenever it happens! xo
Thanks ladies.
I felt a lot better, reading your replies, especially those who pointed out that BF is the best thing to do because of the immunity. That totally makes sense.
I saw my OB today and asked him about it, he said there is absolutely nothing to worry about, hopefully bubs will wait till I'm feeling a bit better before arriving, and if not, the only downside is my level of comfort. So I'm trying not to worry.
Thanks again everyone.![]()
