Slightly high AFI? Alan can you help?

    Hi,

I went for my 40+ 2 midwives appt today. I ended up in day stay as my blood presssure was 148 over 78 but it went back down again. Anyway after a CTG and ultrasound they said my AFI was 15.8 and so they want me to have a CTG on Saturday and be induced Monday.

Just wondered what the repercussions of high AFI are and if it is anything to worry about.

Also I am 80% effaced and 1cm dilated with a Bishops score of 7, so do you think it's likely I will go into labour before Monday anyway?

    Hi woyearwait
Your AFI is not high. The range should be between 5 and 25.
With your effacement etc I think that you are not too far from going into labour.

Wow thanks for that, I feel loads better knowing it isn't high. I don't know why they have told me that then, or why I have to go back tomorrow for a CTG.
Oh well, hopefully things will progress naturally beffore Tuesday's induction.

The only reason I can think of for them saying it was high is that towards the end of your pregnancy your amniotic fluid level does drop a little, but thats still not a good reason for saying that 15.8 is high
