    Special/Significant/Sentimental things to buy baby

    Hi,

I've been lucky enough to have received most items I need for my baby girl to be from family - mostly everything is 'pre-loved'. I've only had to buy a few new things like a pram, a nappy bag and toiletries so far.

I've been thinking though that I should be doing something meaningful for her that comes from myself and/or DH. I'd love to make something, but we have a very small house and I am not particularly crafty and basically want to keep 'clutter' to a minimum.

I thought about buying one special outfit (I have only bought a few new jumpsuits as I have also been given a lot of secondhand clothes) but not sure when she would even wear it. On another thread someone suggested buying a special soft toy/teddy bear to give to baby on the day they are born, which I thought was nice.

    Any other ideas?

I bought a bunny rabbit online from a shop that does organic teddy bears etc. It has no buttons and things so that they can have it from a very young age. We'll give it to Peanut when it's born from Mummy and Daddy.

I didn't buy anything specific. I found the things that created the memories became the sentimental things. I still have a blanket from DD1 who is 16 now, DS got very attached to a toy dog and I have no idea where it came from and I have a particular pair of jarmies from DD2 that I'm keeping forever.

Megsy - we have bought and been given heaps - but the first thing DH and I bought her, which will be her "special thing" is a little Teddy (from What's New) that allows us, when she is born, to name a star after her - once that is done, we get star charts and certificate i think. it's nothing too cluttery (it's only maybe 6inches for the teddy), will live on her shelf - but in her album, she'll have the certificates and things.

maybe something like that would be an idea...

The most precious thing my DD has (to her) is a beanie bear that is yellow like pooh bear...but he has 'lost' alot of the beans inside him and he is very limp and floppy. He is so cute and she sleeps with him almost every night. We picked him up for a $1.50 from a lifeline bin when we were traveling in Victoria! She was 9 months old at the time.

we have a special toy - is a bunny, cause thats what DH started calling our lil 'bun in the oven' from day one, now everyone calls it bunny and so that was the first toy that has been bought for them

My Mum bought my baby (yes even though it us unborn) for christmas the Beatrix Potter box set of books (every story every published all illustrated and in hard covers) and a really soft teddy.

I am not into having heaps of soft toys around so we will just start with the bear and then the books when it gets a bit older.

My mum buys things for her future grandchildren and I'm not even in a relationship yet alone married! (no pressure there!)

A nice idea is a small teddy - a flat kinda handmade one, that you wear inside your bra then put in the basinet with bub so your smell is close by while they sleep.
