hello- am just going through my list of what to take to hospital and need to know...what is the difference between a bassinette blanket and bunny rugs?? it says i need 1 bassinette blanket and 4 bunny rugs. thank you
oh also, why do i need cotton balls??
i told you it was a dumb question....
Cotton balls to wash baby's bum - you have a bowl of warm water and wash the poo off with cotton balls. They're a lot easier to dispose of than wipes for the hospital.
I think bunny rugs may be smaller? No idea on that one, sorry!
I'm guessing the bunny rug is for wrapping (ie like a Flannelette wrap - a bit bigger than a basinette blanket) whereas a basinette blanket is something you would pop over the top of your sleeping baby that can tuck down the sides under the mattress.
Cotton balls are also used for cleaning around the umbilical cord.
Most hospitals don't require you to take extra on top of bunny rugs. I think they are called bunny rugs, because they traditionally had bunnies on them or it was a well know brand name. Sounds strange but I think it's just one of those things, when something is sooo popular, the name becomes generic.
Muslin is great for warmer climates or very warm hospitals also.
I would double check with the hospital on the whole wraps/bunny rug thing to see if you HAVE to use your own. It was also on my list but the hospital do supply them. His first pics of him wrapped up are in hossy wraps. I actually used theirs till we were leaving... I figured why make more washing than I had to for myself... especially in the beginning!!
