I'm trying to work out when to exactly finish work and so I was wondering if anyone can tell me stats on early births? I mean anything early from quite a few weeks to one or two. I'd hate to finish work thinking I had 4 weeks prep time to go really early. How common is it to go early? Of course I know it is different for everyone but if I knew heaps of people went before 40 weeks I might change my dates to finish work slightly. Thanks!

Can't help you on the stats. my DH & I were both early babies at 36/37 weeks and 38 weeks. He was a first baby (born the day his mum finished work) and i was a second.
I am finishing @ 37weeks 2days as i didn't want to spend too long at home and I have an office job that is traditionally quiet at this time of year. Up till today I wasn't finding it too bad, i am just about to hit 35weeks and am rapidly losing motovataion. In hindsight organising to work part time for the last month before the 2 weeks off would probably be a good idea. The only reason I haven't explored the option is that it's not pratical at this time of year and it would be a case of work/no work. For financial reasons it's better that i hang on at least till next week as payrises kick in 1st July which will make a huge differnce given that I have 18 weeks of paid leave (maternity & holiday) and am expecting a 15-20% payrise on 1st July.
No stats here either, but Em came 3 weeks early - much to my surprise! I had only just handed over my last wedding album to a client 2 days earlier!! Just remember that anything between 37-42 weeks is considered to be full term.
my first one was two days late but I was induced with my second one at 38 weeks.
My friends has to have caesarian at 37 weeks and he was fine. 8pounder.
