hey - does anyone else get these??? It is like a stitch or cramp at the top of my bump, up under my BBs or near my ribs... they come on every now and then and can be quite intense, then they go... any ideas what this could be? do i need to worry? I have been assuming all ok and it is just bubs up there pinching on something but good to hear other people's experiences too. Or is this is BH contraction (i expected them to be lower down but havent really had any that I can make out)... thanks for any help!
I think they say everyone's BH's are different, but mine aren't painful - my tummy just goes hard and tight and feels a little uncomfortable and sometimes tingly. I don't get sharp pains, but i get sore ribs... I've noticed i get sore ribs if i haven't been sitting correctly. But you are a few weeks ahead of me, so maybe these sharp pains are something recent?
Pregpan, if the pain gets very strong and doesn't go away, you need to get it looked at (apparently upper abdo pain is the main symptom you get of bleeding behind the placenta). Which BTW doesn't sound at all like what you are describing. I"ve been having lots of crampy/stitchy feelings (come and go but are quite strong for a few seconds at least) along the sides of my abdo, I suspect it's one of those 'normal' pg things.
Your bub could be trying to move around - Flynn did this at about 35 weeks. Silly bugger tried to turn breech and I was gasping with pain for about 30 minutes, thinking I was in labour. Apparently bubs try this occasionally, but by 30 odd weeks are often too big to manage to flip themselves so get stuck and scramble around.
Like others have said, it could be BH - some women get them quite strong. Go to your OB if you get really worried. Though all sorts of wierd aches and pains are normal
Pregpan - if it doesn't go away, at this stage it is safer to go in and get it checked out. As this is time when they need to do tests to ensure its not PE, and re-assure you its just bubs position or BH.
ok guys i think i will ask OB about it next appt (which is about a week away). I dont think it is PE, I am not retaining water and I have if anything low bp (it hasnt moved at all the whole preg and OB is happy with it). I am probably (hopefully) worrying over nothing.... i wasnt that worried abt it til I posted but now of course i am googling all sorts of awful things LOL!!!
Aw PP I totally understand. You haven't finished work yet, have you? I bet you are getting stressed out of your mind, I know I was last time
Try to relax. That's a useless thing to say I know, because its like trying to tell a blind man to enjoy the scenery LOL!! I'm sure it will be all ok, but stop googling!! The net is full of stuff to worry about - just don't go there hun!!
yep i have 4 more weeks of work, i think i better ban myself from google or i am going to be preg, insane and full of crazy illnesses by the end of this!!
This is my first post so forgive me if I ramble. I think that I have experienced that same pain as you at times. A friend told me that her Obs told her that there are a whole lot of muscles just under the ribs at the top of the bump and if the baby kicks to puts pressure on this area it can causing bruising/pain to the muscles - but isn't anything to worry about. Sometimes moving around helps for me to make the pain/stitch subside - maybe that makes the baby shift - not sure. Still as the other posts have said worth mentioning to your Obs just to be sure.
welcome to BB Anne - and thanks for your post! That's pretty much what it feels like and i know bubs has hois/her feet under my ribs so i had thought it was that but thought worth asking the question... mine also subsides when i move around a bit... and it comes and goes. anyway will ask my OB and let you all know if i find anything interesting out.
I don't get the pains your describing but I do go numb and get pins and needles in the same spot if I'm not sitting or lying correctly. I hope it's just BH's for you and it means everything is normal and happening the way it's supposed to.
It could be just the muscles & ligaments stretching. I know I had pain like that & my OB asked me a lot of Qs about it, and concluded that it could just be a pulled muscle that was taking longer to heal because of how stretched it all is.
I hope it's all fine, remember to rest up! Let us know how you go at the OBs.
Hi Pregpan,
I am almost 35 weeks and have been having similar type of pain over the last week or so, but I generally felt it on the right side. I also assume that's because of the baby's position or when it's kicking my ribs It can be extremely sore sometimes and I found that leaning on an exercise ball helped a lot. The trouble is if this happens when I am sitting on my desk in the office, the only thing I can do is raising my hand above my head or try to walk around.
I have had this same pains the last 2 nights too. Only when I lay down and when I'm really tired! More like the baby is kicking something up there. Maybe BH - who knows? I will ask my ob this week too. I also have very sore arms and legs at night which I'm going to ask about. Driving me mad! Other than that everything is fine and dandy!!
