Question Is there such a thing as too many BH's?

I didn't really want to post such a frivolous thread with all that is going on... so I'm sorry if anyone thinks its disrespectful

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as having too many BH's? I've been having a LOT lately, sometimes they are accompanied by cramps, sometimes they aren't. Yesterday I had a really sharp burning pain at the top of my bump so I sent my midwife a text and she got me to come in and took my blood pressure (which was fine) and then checked me for swelling (none to report) and the pain had gone by then. She said she thinks its most likely that the baby's head is pressing on some nerves and that is where the pain is coming from.

Then we got talking about BH's and how many I'm getting - I told her that I usually get a lot when I'm driving (or just sitting down) and that I can get as many as 4 in the time it takes me to drive from my house to town (so around 4 in 20 minutes).

Yesterday I had a lot of them too, seemed to be every 20 minutes or something I was getting another one. Is that too many or normal for this stage of pregnancy (nearly 32 weeks)? I don't remember getting that many last pregnancy thats all.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I have been going to post the same thread. I am getting a lot too. Like you described. They are getting more uncomfy too. Mostly they don't hurt, just gets really tight and uncomfortable but sometimes there is some cramping too. A few nights ago I had one every 5 minutes for 1/2 hr which freaked me out but then they got further apart again and it hasn't happened like that again.

Oooh I don't know about the number of BH...I think my midwife used to say no more than 4 in an hour was okay.

As for the nerve thing, I had that with Moo and that's exactly how my midwife explained it.

    Hope you're okay!

i had them heaps with DS2- it freaked me too- i had them full on at 36 weeks for 26 hours- it got to the stage that the OB sent me to go and have CTG to make sure bubs was Ok as it had been going on for a while!
they subsided by themselves but they were comingt 10 mins apart at some stages

i went on to have boof a week later and when labour started the cx were 5 mins apart from the start!!!
so be aware that when it does start- it could come on quick
i had first cx at 8.45am, went to hossy at 12pm and was 3cm dilated and cx were 1 min apart - fully dilated at 2.45pm and had him at 2.54pm that same day after 3 pushes!! EASY!!
    not long now girls

I had them like that for the last 3 bubbas.. and when labour did it, it hit fast!!!
I had them starting around 34 wks, and went over with most, so I dont think its an indicator of early labour, more of half the work is done by the time you ARE in labour!!
Last 3 labours were 1.5 hr, 45 mim, 1.5 hr.... from first pain. So although I dont think they are harmful, I think they do do something....

Yep, me too. And for ages, and regular - like, 4 or 5 hours, 10 minutes apart.

Must be a fourth baby thing ... I've been having them since 31 weeks. They have settled down a little in the last week though and now I am just having them every 10 mins for 6 hours every evening/night. They feel like they are doing work so I think labour will be super quick this time. Last pregnancy, I had a week like this before I had DD2 and my labour was only 45 mins before I was 9cm dilated. This time it has started heaps earlier so I am stressed that I am not going to make it to the hospital on time.

It's really not fun having so many BH and it messes with your head (it's been messing with mine for 4 weeks now). I am trying to ignore them and just focus on my due date to remind myself that I still have a few weeks to go. I started letting myself think the baby was going to come early and it has just made everything so much harder. I have been checked over too and there is no reason to think he will be here sooner than expected so I am just focussing on getting through the next few weeks now.

The BH have taken their toll a bit though ... I am completely worn out and have no energy. DH has been great so I have spent the weekend sleeping. If only it meant that I feel energised. It is tiring having them all the time.

I hope your BH settle down soon ... if they don't just think about how much easier they are probably going to make your labour because you are doing a lot of the hard work now.
