Perfectly sfe to have dental treatment during pg. You can even have a local anaesthetic, but no x-rays.
Hi all
I have had the worst tooth ache all night and I am sure it means I need a filling in my tooth but as I am 34 plus weeks pregnant is it safe to get one? This will only be my second filling so AHHHHH is all I can say about a trip to the dentist.
TIA
Jem

Thanks Sherie
I am not looking forward to a visit to the dentist but anything is better than a throbbing tooth!!

Gee I had an x-ray when I was pregnant on my mouth. I also had an MRI when I was about a week pregnant and another MRI when I was 35 weeks pregnant. The reasoning for it was if the baby was born at 35 weeks they would give it a MRI anyway so it shouldnt hurt her. She came out fine at 9 pound 4 2 weeks early.
I had to have a root canal done, but they knew I was pregnat so I couldn't have one of the antibiotics and they made sure I had on the iron apron when x-raying.
I had two fillings last week (at 29 weeks).
The only thing was the baby seemed to react to the drill noise while the dentist was cleaning my teeth. Enough for even the dentist to notice the movement - I think it freaked him a bit![]()
We try not take x-rays of pg women, but don't worry if you have to have one. The amount of radiation is tiny, so shouldn't be a problem at all.
