EFW is the weight which they always say + or - 15% as they can be wrong.
BPD can't remember what it means. I'll go and check one of my reports for you.
Hiya
Back at 35 wks I had an u/s to check position of the low lying placenta. Its moved, which is great!!
I am just looking over my report and trying to understand what all these terms mean!!
Presentation: cephalic with spine lying left with legs flexed -> what does cephalic mean?!
FHB: 143bpm -> obviously bub's heartrate
BPD: 90mm -> ??
HC: 342mm -> is this head circumfrance?! (sp)
FL: 68mm
EFW: 2760 gm +/- 15% -> bub weight is 2.7kg, whats the 15% for??
Can anyone shed some light on this for as I am very curious!!
Thanks!

Cephalic means head down doesn't it?
Wouldn't the + or - mean it could be a bit more or a bit less ( like 15% of 2.760kg more or less).
Good job on moving your placenta!
Cephalic is head down i have that on all of my u/s reports and Eleanor was alway head down.
BPD might be the tummy when they measure that.
With the weight thing the last u/s i had and that was the day before i had Eleanor it said it was 2.7kilos and the next day when i had her she weighed 3.030kilos so that is why they give the 15%
biparietal diameter (BPD) means fetal measurement.
At 35 weeks the average is 88mm
The BPD are measured on a transverse axial section of the fetal head which includes the falx cerebri anteriorly and posteriorly, the cavum septum pellucidum anteriorly in the midline and the thalami. The BPD is measured from the outer edge of the nearer parietal bone to the inner edge of the more distant parietal bone

HC is head circumference. The other one is the diameter of the tummy? and the +/- 15 on the weight is she could be bigger or smaller (always find it funny they can even try to guess that)

Hi Ngala
Cephalic = head down
FHB = Foetal heart beat
BPD = biparietal diameter This is one of the measurements they use to check your due date.
HC = Head Circumference
FL = Foetal length
EFW = Estimated foetal weight The +/- 15% means that they can be out by 15% either way. As yet they are not able to accuratly check the weight of the foetus using U/S
haha Alan, I always thought FL meant Femur length from watching my 20wks scans LOL.
Oops.
I just checked the FL and in this scan it does mean femur length.
They used to use foetal length a few years ago. They now use CR or CH for the foetal length. Sorry![]()
NO worries at all LOL! Could they every effectively measure the length of the baby at such a late stage?
Not really. They can get an idea but thats about it
Oh my GOSH!! You nearly gave me a heart attack when you said foetal length!! I thought 68cm is HUGE!!!
I think I would have rather not known the head circumference.... LOL
LOL HC isnt that big... my DD was 34cm...same as ur bubs!
