what does calcium in the placenta mean??

    Hey Everyone,

I had a visit with my ob today and im 37 weeks... she did an ultrasound and thankfully bub isnt breech.. but she did say that the white spots on my placenta was calcium deposits and pardon the term but she said " they were looking past their use by date..." can anyone tell me what this means as she didnt elaborate , although i did ask. Any help would be great.

Sorry if this has come up before and i havent noticed it...

    Tam.

    Hi Tammy
It means that your placenta has been doing its job very well but now it is getting a little old and starting to show its age. It is very common to see calcium in the placenta late in your pregnancy. Your placenta will still function until you give birth. I would not say its past its use by date but it is getting close to its use by date
