What are my chances of a VE at 38 weeks?

Ok so I am due for my 38 week check up next Thursday and I was wondering what my chances of getting an exam? I am at the Women's in Melbourne. I know that less is better but would like to know how my cervix is going and possible ask for a S&S if things are progressing. This will be my 2nd VBAC and hospital induction will not be an option after my due date. Also does anyone know if I'll have a 39 week check up or will have to wait for the 40 week?

    Thanks!

I'm not sure how it works with your carers, but I'm 36 weeks on Saturday and starting tomorrow, I'll go for an appointment with my OB weekly until delivery. If I remember correctly, with my first pregnancy he checked me at 39 weeks. I ended up being induced 10 days over and DS was born the next morning because at my last two appointments I was 2 cm dilated but not progressing. Good luck!

    Hi Zap

At 38 weeks a VE will tell you nothing of any significance. Your cervix will probably be open a little but this does not mean that you are going to birth early or even on your due date. The only thing that you will get with a VE at 38 weeks is the chance of introducing an infection. Or even accidentally breaking your waters which could well lead to a CS

My sister (although not at RWH - Melb) had a VE at her 37 and 39 week appt. But, she had been 2cm dialated from 34 weeks.

I had DD at RWH - Melb and only ever had a VE at 31 weeks during my labour scare. I only made it to 34 weeks, tho.

Ok so resisted the urge to even ask for one as I saw the midwife last week and policy is only docs can do VE for VBACer's. I won't see a doc till 41 weeks hopefully I won't make it that far! Just getting really impatient and want to avoid c sect at all cost!
