    Whats this blood test for??

    My ob gave me a referral to get some blood tests done, but, we where to busy chatting, and he never got around to saying what its for.
    This is what it says...

    FBC, Ferritin, IDC, TSH only

    My main worry is that i will be taking AIden with me to get teh blood tests done, and if they are for GD, i dont want to have to sit and wait for 2 hours with a toddler. So, if it is, then, i can arrange someone to look after him..

    Thanks.

    You're at about the right gestation for the GD test... but I am pretty sure mine said "GTT" on it for Glucose Tolerance Test.

    Ferratin is something to do with iron...

    Does it say anything about fasting before the test? The 2hr GD needs you to fast I think but the 1hr one that I did doesn't need fasting.

    If all else fails, call the Obs! Or even your GP should be able to explain!

    FBC is full blood count...

    Not sure what the tests would be for, perhaps give the OB office a call and ask?

    Ferritin is to check your iron levels, FBC is full blood count, TSH is to screen for thyroid hormones. Not sure what IDC is

    Hi Debbie
    FBC = Full Blood Count
    Ferritin = Check your iron reserves
    TSH = thyroid screening hormones
    IDC = no idea what this is. Are you sure it says IDC?

    i googgled it.. and, from what i can gather, its got something to do with testing for genetic diseases. Its called the Indirect Coombs test apparently.
