I wonder why we haven't been told about the name change - maybe they are ignoring it :)
We have 2 transition days of 2 hours each in nov and the kids have already done a kinder visit to the school and had the prep teachers visit kinder. Janie, we have a school holiday program every day if the holidays, you just need to book in advance. I also find that as they make friends you can do swaps with other parents for days that you are working so they have your kid one and you have theirs on another. I tend to do that more than using the holiday program now.
We are in Vic we have been told they will be called foundation students in a newsletter.
Info I received in mail last week said Kinder to Prep transition.
Must ask the other mums who are more involved with the school about the name change. The last letter I got from the school confirming the enrollment, I am sure said Prep (I could check, but frankly I my filing sucks and I am lazy).
Not sure what I will do with the Wednesday off first term. I think work will be ok, but I may be lucky and some mums may help out.
The council runs the vacation program here. Sadly nothing at school, but it does mean that sometimes DD1 gets to mix with kids she knows from other schools. Will be interesting with DD2 going as well, as she seems so little and the vacation care place is so full on.
When DD1 started they finished at 1pm for the first 4 weeks. They didn't do it this year, so not sure what will happen for DS. I know they still get the trannies to have a 'rest' after lunch.
I will email tomorrow for more information about orientation and hours.

Ours is in November so pretty laye in the year some of the kids at kinder have already had there's.
DD had an 1.5hr session about a month or so ago, email sent this morning.
The original email I had has prep transition!
I think Djs transition will be organised at the next KIS meeting (kinder inclusion support) and will also talk to the special school about the bus ect.
It's going to.be fun getting Dj to wear a hat short of super glueing to his head!
In the next week or so i'll price unifroms and see if the pants can be baught else where as dj goes through them soooooooo fast and my patching sucks lol. As dose my ability to 'take in' or up haha :l
Well you guys got me motivated! I called the school and had a chat. They have out her on the list for prep now and will email about an orientation day next term. They said I can just fill in the enrollment forms on the day of orientation.
Im not organised - the special school is LOL Dj had to under go a whole heap of tests to make sure he was eligeable to go - which he will be but yeah... normally i leave everthing until the day before its due in (like vics 3yr old kinder enroll ment stuff :redface: )
Schools around here fill up very quickly so we started enquiring months ago, had forms in before July I think.
Dd1 starts kinder next year.
She suffers allot with anxiety so its going to be interesting. When should I be letting the school know about these things?? We are having her hearing tested also as we think there is an issue so will know more soon.
Paperwork arrived today and it all said Prep! All the dates for the 4 transition days (24th oct to 10th dec). I'm kinda excited!:

Yes I believe so, although just to confuse things further Prep is now called Foundation in VIC.:

DS starts next year too. I'm going to miss him to pieces but at the same time he is driving everyone up the wall too.
We had his name down 2 years ago and he still wasn't the first name on the list. He did get in though so that's all that matters. I wish his school was closer though!
If you look further back we had discussion before and not all schools have changed name most of us still have kids starting prep.:

There must be some government official in each state who's sole job is to think of different names for things that are really the same just to be annoying. I wonder how much they get paid and if I could have that job. Sounds like fun ;)

DD1 is starting prep next year! She is excited, I'm a bit terrified but also excited! She is a head strong child who will thrive under the structure of school, just like her mum did I predict :)
Is anyone else worried about their kiddies not being able to sit still and pay attention? DS is always on the go, he rarely sits still for anything and he has a very short attention span. If he is interested in something he can focus, otherwise, not so much. He also talks a lot... I mean *A lot*, he even talks in his sleep :doh: .

Dd2 doesn't sit still so she will struggle with that but her sister is them same, she had to sit on her hands at the start of this term! I give them fish oil to help and it makes a big difference I notice a difference if I forget a dose.
OK so my DS is one of those kids at the shops that people give a wide berth to and give sympathy stares to me....he literally bounces...off everything.... His preschool teacher (who is seriously awesome) assures me he is a totally different child at preschool. I remember the day they congratulated me for having the kindest, most polite and thoughtful little boy - I nearly fainted. Told them they must have me confused with another mother. lol.:
Little boys are what Kindy teachers are good at.
You are describing my DS. Even the talking in his sleep bit lol. He is very much like my DH. From talking to the teachers at the school and kindy, I think that short attention span is common in this age group so they structure activities to suit. Will be interesting to see how he goes.:
This time next week dd will be getting ready for prep orientation!!! It's funny, I get that feeling of "she's growing up" but I don't get that feeling of its a big deal.
I get the feeling of its a year overdue - she should have started last year!!! So I almost feel like FINALLY!!! Lol.
She was put ahead so at 3.5 she was in 4 year old kinder and going great but we didn't think anything of it till the end of first term this year and by then it was too late. We had a few people say to think about putting her in school and then on the opposite end to let her be a kid as long as possible. Really, this year has been hard she's plateaued (and yes part of that is our fault because we haven't had a lot of time to do things she loves - like learning to read, seriously this child is just like me, what's to learn everything) and is bored and her demeanor has really changed because of that. Sooooo I'm looking forward to seeing her at school, I think she will love it.
First prep transition day for us this morning and dd2 wants to wear her uniform. I think she will be the only one but I'm sure that's ok

Oh how exciting we don't have first orientation day till 21st nov!!!
Other local friends at diff schools have allready had 3-4 days! We get 3 in total!
Dd has 5 her first was last week she loved it with none of the anxiety dd1 had she ran off and went into the room with a friend holding hands then bolted to the playground afterwards. She has been at the school all year with the drop offs and pick ups and has been in the classroom when I helped so I thinks that has helped!
I love that she wants to wear her uniform Nai!!
I however am too scared to buy a uniform until the week before school goes back. DD1 grew 2 sizes in the holidays before she started school lol, and DS has been sleeping and eating a lot lately.
I took DS with me to do readers in DD1's classroom this morning, and he slotted in like he'd been there 2 years with the rest of them. He even got a sticker from her teacher for being so good. :D He's going to be fine at school I reckon.
Will any of you find out your teacher before the school year starts?
We do here in the NT, but in NSW we never did.

DD's orientation is tomorrow morning. We find out which class she will be in and which sports house. She'll be going to my old primary school, so I'm a tad biased about the sports teams ;)
There are only 2 teachers at our school ;) 1 3 days a week, the other twice a week when the class gets spilt ;)
We will find out at some stage, thought I already knew, but there has been just enough enrolments to have a full prep and a prep/one. So are putting in feedback about friends, then they will work it out.
Already have uniforms (from DD1), just need to wait on school shoes and runners.
Nai - loads of kids were wearing part of their uniform on the transition day. They looked so grown up.
Kim - we find out on the last transition day who the teacher is and who else is in the class. I am also waiting to buy uniform as DS1 is not big and you never know when he's going to have a bit of a spurt.
We haven't had any transition days yet. I haven't heard anything. I was of the understanding that the kidy arranged this. There are about 18 kids from DS's kindy class going to his school next year. There is a parent info night tomorrow night. I'm hoping we'll be able to go to that. If so, I'll ask then.
I've got all DS's uniforms ordered. It's the smallest size & it's huge on him. Surely he couldn't grow that much in 2.5 months?! Even if he doesn't wear them for long, I at least have another to pass them on to.
We find out the teacher after the 4th session at an info night. Dd is getting all of her sisters uniform because dd1 has outgrown hers, it will be a bit big as she is still in 4 and it's a 6 but didn't want to have to buy two new sets.
lol My DD1 started in a size 8 and 10. Thankfully too large for DS (they wear the same polos).
We are very fortunate to get a $150 school allowance per child at the beginning of every year that can be put towards uniforms.
