After a great first day yesterday, I thought DS would be glad to go to school again today. But when I told him he was going to school today, he said, "But muuuum. Do I have to go to school AGAIN!" :rofl: Yes mate. 5 days a week. 40ish weeks a year. For the next 13 years. Poor kid.
Dd loved it! And was just as excited to go again today. Dd2 grabbed ahold of dd's hand when I tried to say goodbye and waved to me and said goodbye from behind her dummy. I was like "sorry honey, you don't get to stay". She is totally devastated that she is left behind. I have managed to be late picking her up the first day by about five mins. Today I ran out of fuel! Had to ask my sister to pick her up, Hoping that day three I will actually manage to not have a parental fail! I am managing the whole new routine pretty well so far and actually finding that getting outta bed at 7:30 is helping me to get more done with my day. Previously the girls would just come in for snuggles and then go turn on the telli and help themselves to fruit for the first 1-2 hrs of the day. (I know, I am lucky/it was horrible ms with this baby and I have been enjoying the extra rest)
DD loved it & was so excited to talk about all the things she did.
We took her out for tea as a celebration of her first day.
We brought a pretty writing book a week or so ago so we are going to use it as a bit of a school diary, put some photos in it & write stories etc.
Yesterday we write in it about the letter 'Ss' and her first reader book which she read from memory with DP covering the pictures & she only got 1 word wrong!
It's going to be such an exciting year!
Will find a way to upload pictures somewhere & put up a link, she was so darn cute!
DS was really upset this morning when I dropped him off. He didn't want to go into his classroom, he just wanted to play in the playground. I have promised him tomorrow we will arrive a bit earlier and he can play in the playground before school starts. I feel a bit sad for him because the kindy friends he was closest too are all in different classes. He has a few kindy friends in his class but they weren't the ones he played with every day. So far he hasn't tried to make new friends in his class, just stuck with those he knows, but I'm sure it will come in time. He has been playing with his other kindy friends at lunch time.
Poor thing, hope he finds his groove soon.
None of DD's friends are at our school, actually no-one from her kinder is but she seems happy enough knowing she will see them outside of school... Fingers crossed!
Dropped DS1 off this morning, he was fine me on the other hand blubbering mess!! I am putting it down to fact I am sick as well. He found his bag hook and was excited to get into his classroom and start doing things. Play doh then cars. He has a few kids he knows and 1 from kinder but rest of kinder kids he knows 7 of them are all in other room!!! I think 18 kids in his class and lots if boys which is nice for him. Pick him up at 1300.
Dropped two little girls at school today! Dd1 is in grade 1 and dd2 just went in to her room and started drawing and ignored us. She finished at lunch time and is now off to lunch with dad. Can't wait to here how she went.
Had to laugh at the picture dd brought home on her first day. It said "dd has conpleted her first year of prep. Only 2,600 days of schooling to go!"
Well we all survived. Walked DD up this morning, she chatted all the way up to school, waltzed into her classroom, said hi other teacher, told her teacher she had spelled her name wrong (:lol:), put her bag away, found her desk, sat down and started drawing. No dramas.
I was fine. I think because I had the boys with me and I was quite distracted by DS2, but even since then I've been ok. Maybe it'll be different when it is my baby? Who knows.
Back tomorrow, 9-1.
Dj did really well too... Copped a cut lip from tripping over in the play ground. He was really well behaved on the bus too. Getting him up was a little harder but that'll settle, as hopefully.will his bed time.
Now i need to start thinking more about lunches/snacks for him
Bit mixed with DD2 this morning. Wanted to walk to the class room by herself, then changed her mind. I had to do a few things at school for DD1, so was still around and she saw me in the playground, so then clung to me. She was then perfectly fine when one of her friends arrived :rolleyes:
Dd2 enjoyed today even wanted a play date after school, but she was very tired and cried when I put her drawing upside down on the wall.
What were you thinking! That's the ultimate crime...I have been guilty of it before!:
It was a good day here too. Dd2 now sitting on the couch with an icy pole, still won't take her school dress off :)
So how did everyone go with their first few days back, kids buggered?
DD1 is LOVING it, she can't wait to get homework next week (only kid I'm sure) and has been doing some home printed work sheets based around what she's working on at school.
She was so excited her name was in the newsletter welcoming the preps (only 4 preps in total).
She has read 3 readers and is doing so by memory and looking at the pictures and her teachers are really happy with where she is at, they don't actually do any testing etc at this school but work on each child at their individual level (benefit of a small school).
The principal commented about how confident and happy she is to lead the class and participate and he thinks she is going to do really well, which is great to hear as she can get a little shy and nervous at times.
I'm REALLY happy with our decision to send her to this school, it really is tiny (17 kids total) but she gets so much one on one time, they still do sports and see other schools and she gets a lot of interaction outside of school with gymnastics and swimming.
I'm looking forward to this year, I really am.
My dd was tots buggered zavara! I think she will hit a wall at the end of next week, or in the week after. Her teacher said she could tell she was tired on Friday cos she was a lot more quiet! We have signed her up for soccer at the local club, but she doesn't start till the end of February, so not to much all at once. Ready to do it all again tomorrow ladies?

My little man loved his 2 short days so far!!! Very exciting!! He came home after day 1 and "read" DS2 a book he said I can read now I am at school LOL very cute!!! Tomorrow is the start of the normal hours, I am working shorter hours for 2 weeks so doesn't need to start before and after school care too quickly. He looks so grown up in his uniform makes me teary LOL.
I am allready wondering about what to put in lunches all year will get very repetative!! Need to pack so much with Brain snack, recess and lunch!!!
Day three and DD is sick already. Woke up complaining of a sore tummy, has been sitting on the loo, then vomited. Just water, but she's very pale and still says her tummy hurts. I assume 24 hour exclusion period so home today. DS1 starts kinder today and I'm supposed to stay with him for his first session so I'm not sure what we are going to do...
Oh no OP - that's not good at all! Can anyone else stay with DD while you do the kinder session?
DD2 complained she was dizzy this morning - I think the heat is taking it's toll but she ran off happy as anything when she got to school. She was the first in the door when the bell went :D

Dd2 is loving it she told me I don't have to take her to her class she can do it on her own! She did let me walk around in the end but bolted in without a goodbye, I know it's a good sign but she is growing up so fast. She has made a few friends, a couple of girls which is unusual for her as at kinder and daycare it was the boys, there are three of her friends in her class from previous years she just wants to play with the girls instead.
My boy had his first day today and he had a good day. Wants to go back tomorrow. Yay!!
No tears from him, but I had a few when walking out and I the car. I only stayed for a minute cause I had to go to work (yay red eyes for work. Lol) but he was happy and found a friend straight away and was playing. Was really good to see.

DD had a ball at her first day. She found her new friend in the cloakroom and basically they went off together and sat down to start painting. I had to go after her to get a kiss good bye! But that is a good sign and she is happy to be going back tomorrow. She is pretty tired tonight so happy for shorter days and for day off on Wednesday.
Next week we still have Wednesday off, but onto normal hours and DD will also be in after school care 3 days when I am at work. So another big adjustment!

I really missed my little man today, it was my work from home day, and although I had DD home with me it was really quiet and I found myself thinking about DS all day, I was super excited to pick him up this arvo :)
DS received a certificate for completing his First Day of Prep which is on the Fridge and all the preppys names were in the Newsletter being welcomed so that was cool. We completed a bit of a 'project' on the weekend, we had to send in a family photo and complete a Family Tree as the Reception classes are learning all about Family Connections and Traditions this term.
We have a Meet the Teacher night in 2 weeks, so looking forward to that, then there is more formal and individual Parent/Teacher Interviews next term. We dont start any readers or anything like that until Term 2, Term 1 is all about settling into school and adjusting to the routine etc so thats nice.
DS also has his first morning of OHSC tomorrow. I will need to drop him in at 730 on Tues/Wed due to work commitments, he is looking forward to it, but its such a long day. Hopefully he will be ok.
We used to do swimming on Thurs mornings so have switched that to after school, dont want to over commit to lots of activities so have set a rule of one per week!
Anyway, funnily DS told me this morning that he had 5 more days of school left. I told him that was just for this week. He then asked me when he stops going to school, I told him that he has to keep going until he's 16 or so.... He was like ""Ooooooh!!!!"" PMSL I think he thought it was just a new thing for a few weeks. He doesn't mind though, he is already in awe of the big kids!
MN that is so cute, they are just starting to understand the concept of time and months/years hey!
Thanks everyone for your concern. No more vomiting... But... Bit of the runs. She is feeling heaps better and she's desperate to go, she was so bummed to miss out today. We ended up taking her to kinder as we didn't want DS to miss out, but she hated coming as I told her she had to sit away from all the other kids and not talk to the teacher because it was about Ds1, not about her. She was pretty good, sat right away and drew pictures for the hour we were there.
So, what do I do about tomorrow? She's been fine since about lunch, no runny poos or anything... I don't want to have her home again, she is fine and she'll just cause trouble with the boys because she's bored, plus we have our own things we need to do (play group).
That sounds really mean, I don't want to have her home, but y'all get what I mean I hope? She needs school.
Oh and Janie I don't think it was from school, the bug, I think it was a combination of heat and dehydration from yesterday plus then drinking too much water - she basically brought up water, then had a bit of sloppy poo... Sorry tmi!

OP I was told 24hrs without vomiting or the runs for kinder & school, so I always allowed the 1 day gap... It's a giant PITA but Atleast then your not worrying she's passing something on to someone else?
Will come back in tomorrow, got to have DD2 at kinder by 8:30 then DD1 to school at 9 with the 15min drive in between and dragging DD1 out from seeing her old teachers ;)
Thought I'd pop in here though dunno if I really belong in here.
DS started Kindy today - but he's in the 'Early Intervention Center' one day and the other day and a half he's in an Education Support Center kindy room of only bout 4-5 students.
He apparently showed some seperation anxiety for a while after I left but he improved - He hasn't done it since his first couple of weeks at daycare 2 yrs ago! But I guess it's all just a learning curve. I can't wait for him to go back tomorrow and show them that he'll be fine :)
It's good to hear that so many of the kids are settling in well and loving it. DS has settled in well. He still seems to think that he's been to school now so he doesn't need to go anymore, even though I've told him that he's got many years ahead.
I was speaking to a mum of one of DS's kindy friends. Her DD is in a different class to DS. She was saying that already her DD is copping the playground bullying from the other girls - the whole "you're not my friend" type bullying and has been crying at lunchtime. I feel so sad for her because she is such a lovely friendly girl. I just don't understand why the girls do that :(
"You're not my friend" is not really bullying. Went through a lot of it with DD1 in Prep. It is just them learning about play and friendships. Often when they say that it means "I don't want to play with you right now" or "I don't want to play the game you want to play". As time goes on they will learn about being friendly, what friendship is and how to compromise game play ;)
Often DD1 would ask to play, which gave the other children a chance to say 'no' rather than just joining in. Sometimes they just like to say No just because they can.
DD2 is tired. The hot weekend really killed any rest she got in the lead up. So she is pretty cranky and did not really enjoy her first gymnastics session this afternoon.
Agree with Astrid, this happened with dd 1 last year after talking to her and giving her strategies to just join in or understand it means not now maybe tomorrow we can play etc she was fine. Maybe suggest your friend take take that approach as it's not nice that she is crying.
Dd2 is having a ball she is taking herself to her room and putting her bag outside then going back with the bell. The last two nights she has eaten all of her dinner and finished off everyone else's too. We discovered today that she has outgrown her shoes so thank goodness for late night shopping.
My boy is going pretty good so far. He asked why I couldn't stay in the morning for longer and I felt so so bad. I had to go to work. Then he is like second last child left when I pick him up cause I finish at 2 and he he does too. It doesn't other him much and I was talking to the teacher yesterday and she said he isn't bothered and is happy to go do his own thing while he waits.

Poor DS, DH picked him up today and he was knackered, fell asleep in the car and was then teary as his ears were hurting. After a cool bath, cuddles and dinner he was back to his normal self. I think he's hit the wall a bit with exhaustion. Will give his teacher a heads up in the morning.
He lost one of his little sandwich sized containers and another containers lid yesterday, was most upset, checked lost property today, nothing - annoyed as they are all clearly labelled, hopefully they will turn up. He thinks he left it outside on the tables they eat lunch. Anyway, all good!
He did well on his two mornings of OHSC, OHSC teacher said he was busy and enjoying himself and was playing soccer with the big kids outside too. We need him to go Tues/Wed mornings due to work commitments but I think the two long days have knocked him about. Have been making sure he is in bed no later than 7pm to ensure a good nights sleep
No school for DS today, had a temp all night, I think an ear infection might be the culprit

Aw MN sorry to hear DS has an ear infection, poor little dude. Hope he is all better soon and you can enjoy a nice day with him tomorrow, instead of being sick. Lots of cuddles either way.
DH had to do the school drop and pick up today. He did really well, including doing DD's hair. The teacher didn't recognise him when he came to pick up DD, lol. She was a bit shattered at the end of the night tonight, she had a little melt down when I tried to put her to bed. She went to sleep easily enough finally and here's hoping for a long good sleep for her.
MN - I hope your little man feels better soon.
Big meltdown this afternoon here too. It seemed to go on forever but big cuddles while he calmed down and got it all out, he was fine after that.
Almost the end of the week. Yay!!
Attitude is beyond terrible here at the moment :( I thought school was meant to help not make it 100 times worse.
Ds boycotted on thursday, refused to get out of the shower as he didn't want to go.
His teacher is going away for 3 weeks at the end of this week too, perhaps I'm over reacting but I'm not happy about that at all!
All in all going ok. I wish we had homework though, both of us are having trouble transitioning from school into home i think homework would help a little - I may eat those words lol.
Dd2 has been tired and cranky today and taking it out on all of us and ds then joined in too was a long day!!
Blackcat I would be upset at a teacher going away for three weeks right when they are settling in. Dd1's teacher hurt his knee and is away it's meant we didn't get timetables or any homework for her either. Hope he is back next week, we have started reading again and doing reading eggs to get back into the routine and dd1 is reading and copying words.
DS went back to school today after 2 sick days. Told me he had a sore belly and after a chat worked out he had butterflies. Once he was all settled into class I asked him if it was OK if I left and he told me he was fine and to go home Hahaha
We have a "meet the teacher" evening on Wednesday. Teacher goes through their daily routine and what they are focussing on etc. Parent/teacher interviews are term 2

Gosh I can't believe some of your littlies get homework! What about play based learning? That said I chose this school because they don't believe in it either.
My little guy took to it like I knew he would. No trouble at all. We did have a couple of hiccoughs last week which resulted in a day off due to exhaustion. I woke him one morning (quite late but i waited as he never sleeps in), and five minutes later went back in - he'd tried to get out of bed but had fallen back asleep lol, so i left him there. Made the world of difference.
Dd2 misses him badly. When he was home last week she drove him batty following him closely everywhere :)
